Week 11.2 – March 27, 2017
Shows/After Class

Week 11.2 – March 27, 2017

The trio made it an all-request Monday for their second last show. From Drake to Aaron Carter, they were able to cover a lot of bases. Since DJ Nix was absent for #MoreLifeMonday, we asked her for her review. She really loves the playlist, and seems to get something new out of every listen. She also has a strange appreciation for the way Giggs says “dirty dirty” in “KMT.”

After being in University for five years, the DJs thought it was appropriate to share their exam survival skills. They are:

1. Eat balanced meals.

You have no lecture, so plan and execute healthy, balanced meals. One carb, one fruit or vegetable, and one protein per plate. Your body will convert this into energy you can use to fuel your studies.

2. Get 7-8 hours of sleep.

This goes without saying. Resist the temptation to stay up all night and study. Plan your time, because it will catch up with you and affect your performance on the test.

3. Hydrate.

Although coffee is a typical go-to while studying, drink lots of water. You should be drinking half of your body weight in ounces per day. It’s good for your skin and overall health, and even helps improve your concentration.

4. Take proper breaks.

Whether it’s taking an hour to grab a bite with a friend, reading for fun, or going to the gym, make sure to take breaks from studying. Cramming will only get you so far, and really, not far at all.

This week’s track list is as follows:

  1. Tunnel Vision – Kodak Black
  2. Hate It Or Love It – 50 Cent
  3. Rolex – Ayo & Teo
  4. Poker Face – Lady GaGa
  5. KMT – Drake ft. Giggs
  6. Off the Ground – Anderson .Peak
  7. Aaron’s Party (Come Get It) – Aaron Carter

The Boiling Point March 23 – Keepin’ Ya Head Up

Yesterday’s show was about how to keep a positive mindset when times get tough. Being in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or fourth year teaches an understanding of balancing study, socializing and a personal life.  But managing the daily struggle of school becomes more difficult when situations beyond our control mount on the pressures of keeping your head about you while things are exploding everywhere.

Without skirting the issue, the U.S. administration has changed how western politics functions at least momentarily, juxtaposing democracy and tyranny.  The President of the United States is attempting to indiscriminately do away with most liberties, with a broad sweep of literally strong-arming everyone in his wake into submission.  We’ve seen him try to muscle people through awkward handshakes, barrages of personal attacks on public figures and world leaders, and try to retrofit archaic policies that marginalize and threaten the safety of several people.

With his failed attempts at banning muslims from entering the country, he affected business, education and foreign relations between would-be allies and has incited violent extremism both in and outside of the United States.  Even in Canada, a Trump-inspired vigilante murdered six innocent people while they were worshipping at their mosque earlier this year.  Canadian students have experienced difficulties in completing their studies as some programs require them to travel back and forth across the U.S. border, and though our government has taken the position of resisting the U.S. immigration policy it hasn’t brought the effects to a halt.  It goes without saying that the United States’ attack on progressive freedom is being felt throughout the world.

The school year is almost over, with just about a month left between final assignments and exams.  We made it!  Every year has its unique challenges, and asks different things of you to make it through.  You learn and grow not just from the academics, but through the activities you participate in, and who you encounter each day.  Last night’s show was a reminder to stick to the foundation that holds you together.  Each person has their own set of values that helps them make sense of the world, especially throughout learning new things at school and deciding what you want from life.  When things get tough and they’re coming at you from all angles and throwing you off balance, remember the things that make you feel stable: maybe it’s a cottage at the grandparents, or that friend back home that you grew up with that you can’t wait to see when school’s over, or maybe it’s just something simple like a favourite hobby you do in your spare time.  Whatever that anchor is, hold on to it and let it guide you through the unfamiliar waters.  You’ll see that you can look at things objectively and feel a sense of calm while you make sense of it.

Here’s the playlist of songs that played last night:

  1. Lavender – Kaytranada feat. Snoop Dogg
  2. Savage – Little Simz
  3. Sex X Money X Sneakers – BJ The Chicago Kid
  4. Hallucinations – dvsn
  5. Waiting For – araabMuzik, Dvnk Sinatrv
  6. Lady Of Leisure – Gifted Gab
  7. Below The Surface – Pham
  8. 195 – Kaytranada
  9. Bist du Down? – Ace Tee, Kwame
  10. Third Rail – Quincy Vidal
  11. All About Me – Syd
  12. Actin Crazy – Action Bronson
  13. Bad and Boujee – Migos, Lil Uzi Vert

  • Overwatch

  • Kirby: Triple Deluxe
    • From Nintendo comes their 2014 Kirby installment Kirby: Triple Deluxe. In this game, players play as Kirby as he tries to rescue Dream Land from insect evil forces residing in Floralia, a new land that has appeared above Dreamland. It’s that time again Drake stans. Your very own 6 God, released a new project last Saturday! After delivering another chart topping album with “Views”, we’ve all been waiting for new music from the Toronto artist himself.

Drizzy officially announced the date of his album through his promotional instagram video and is available to stream through Spotify as well as Apple Music.

He released the upcoming works of his projects back in October on the infamous OVO Sound Radio as well as posting a picture of his father, Dennis Graham posed for “More Life”.

Unlike “Views”, the project is described more of a playlist vibe rather than an album. Artists like Kanye West, Jorga Smith, Sampha, Young Thug, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Travis Scott are one of many featured on some of Drake’s tracks.

Like his previous albums and mixtapes, Drake provides a tracklist with various tones ranging from dancehall, a trap vibe and also those infamous heartfelt songs he is known for. He mentions in his song “Do Not Disturb” that he will release more music in 2018, so for now enjoy the playlist from the 6 God and be prepared for what he has to offer in his next project! As well as be ready for those OVO Fest tickets… it’s going to go from spring to summer seventeen real quick.

NextWeekNow March 23

On this Thursday March 23rd, we observe the second to last airing of NextWeekNow with your host MCMac of this year. It’s sad but true. It was a shortened show again this week. We’ll figure out the technical errors eventually. I promise. On to the news!

A spa in Perth Australia has opened up exclusively for babies. Human babies. It is excruciatingly adorable and pointless but there are a lot of cute baby pictures.

The World Happiness Report of 2017 was released and Canada is in the top ten at seven. The list is led by Norway followed by all of Scandinavia then us.

Sony has announced a release date for the Venom film. Venom, for those who are unaware, is a killer alien villain of Spiderman. The release date is October 5th 2018. The date is the same as the original release date for the Aquaman film, but that date has been pushed back.

Iron Fist has received bad critical approval almost exclusively since its release. The creators have been a little butt-hurt about it and have taken to blaming Donald Trump for being obnoxious or saying that the softly liberal can’t take the idea of a white guy not being ‘Oriental’ enough. What a collection of scumbags.

Black Panther will be coming out February of next year. Dope. The linked article is mostly a meaningless interview but that little nugget is at the end.

A shop in Cleveland Ohio created a giant ball of popcorn for New Years Eve. It was stolen this week… and then returned.

Some American researchers did some research on the meta-data of pornography searches in the Bible Belt and found that the more religious you are the more likely you are to look up porn. I don’t know if this has weight or meaning but it is interesting.

J & P Grocery has opened up in downtown Kitchener. It has taken hot minute, but maybe it’s going to be the best grocery store ever.

A plane going to Alaska had a loose snake on it. It was not venomous or dangerous in any way but wow people love snakes on planes. I wonder why?

Batman was in Montreal this week helping people dig out their cars.

A piece of space junk created in 2007 by the Chinese has a twitter account. It’s a real poet.

Some research has found that the blood of the young might be able to help reduce the effects of aging. I don’t know if it requires consumption, injection, sacrifice or what but still.

There is some new research that I cannot explain in any way but it focuses on the idea that light may be able to slow down. Somehow.

I recently discovered a fascinating new site. If you are a comic boo fan you might like this. Particularly if you think DC are nuts with how they handle their intellectual properties. It’s called “Has DC done Something Stupid Today?”

Superbad came out 10 years ago. Time flies, eh? I remember that movie being new. The linked article has reviews of a few ‘super bad’ comedies that came out since the film. I do not agree with all of the reviews but most of them seem pretty on point.

John Goodman got a star on the Hollywood walk of fame and Jeff Bridges came by to show that the Dude abides.

This is the second last show of this semester. Keep your head up and push through, we are almost there. I’ll talk to you NextWeekNow.
