The Rap Up: Nicki + Sitcom?

Nicki for an Emmy?

Nicki Minaj seems to eat publicity for breakfast these days but this week it looks like she’s taking on a second helping. What is it this week you may ask? Well for starters, its been announced Nicki will not only be the executive producer for a sitcom based on her life with ABC, but will also be in the show as well. Perhaps Hip-Hops first lady is switching her focus from Grammy’s to Emmy’s, which is just fine with us as long as Nicki doesn’t just produce another cookie-cutter sitcom with the added hype of a very large bum.

Chris Brown vs. Australia

It’s no surprise Chris isn’t a fan of playing nice with the other kids on the playground, whether its beef, legal trouble, gang-related violence, pregnancies, or his infamous relationships with women. While most of America has been slowly watching Chris Brown transform, make amends and change his ways, it seems the country from down-unda hasn’t taken noticed. Australian government officials have been trying to keep Chris Brown as far away from their boarders as possible despite the fact his tour is scheduled to pass through. The Aussie’s really don’t like domestic violence and like most of the world, still haven’t forgiven Chris for his horrific actions towards R&B superstar and girlfriend at the time, Rihanna. While he hasn’t been officially denied yet, its not looking too good for breezy.

Happy Birthday Wheezy!

Lil Wayne turned 33 this week and we congratulate him on another year. While fans still eagerly await the release of Wayne’s highly anticipated Carter 6, he’s doing considerably better than he was last year at this time. Still no word on when the Carter 6 might be coming our way but The Free Wheezy Album (FWA) has certainly eased some of the pain. Wayne and Christina Milian recently broke up but we’re sure Wheezy isn’t feeling too down and most likely throwing the birthday party of your dreams. Also look for Wayne, among other superstars, to perform at TIDAL X: 1020 on October 20th in celebration of the Tidal reaching 1 million subscribers.

What Are Kanye & Travis cooking up?

Travis Scott, fresh off his recent debut album Rodeo, has spun the internet into a frenzy of speculation. A few weeks ago it was his brief club stint with Rihanna that pointed to the two being a little more than friends however, this time around, Travis has posted a pic to Instagram. It’s not the photo however that is so exciting, the caption is actually the focus here in which he stated “WE GOT SOMETHING WE BEEN PLOTTINF FOR YEARS NOW THAT’S ABOUT TO SURFACE”. While this is extremely interesting, it’s likely we won’t receive any further details until this “something” actually surfaces. We’ll keep you posted.

The Rap Up: All Eyes on Compton

Dr. Dre has a new prescription for you.

This past Friday Dr. Dre came through with some news that shook the game up on a rictor-scale level. During the Doc’s new radio show through Beats 1 and Apple Music, he announced he had a secret album, finished and ready to be released. Um shut up and take my money? Yeah pretty much. Although some fans are taking some time to grieve over the official announcement that the blueprints for Dre’s long-awaited album Detox will never be, others are counting their blessings, downloading the album and popping in some headphones. Oh and did I mention instant classic?

No matter what day it is, I’m always waiting for the Weeknd…

While attempting to move quickly past that masterfully clever pun, it looks like there’s actually something to look forward to at the end of August instead of lectures, midterms and profs OH MY. The Weeknd has finally revealed the track-list for his second studio album, Beauty Behind the Maddness. This is truly awesome news as fans have been without a new full-length project for almost two years now, and even though there is only one feature, the beautiful Lana Del Rey, it should turn out to be a bonafide gem.

Drake Vs. Meek… Vs Nicki?

It’s been a few weeks since the 6 God blessed us with two of the greatest diss tracks all year, and since Meek took the biggest L of his career to date. Looming lawsuits, album refunds, and of course hurt feelings have all resulted for Meek Mill since this saga began a few weeks ago, and now it’s starting to look like this was all over Nicki Minaj and both rappers previous and current relationship with her. I guess multi-platinum selling artists can’t help but get “highschool” once and a while.

Drizzy x Meek: Round 2

Its round 2 ladies and gentleman, and Drake takes it in a unanimous decision. Don’t believe the hype? All the #backtoback Twitter memes will tell you different. Just days after dropping a rather lack-luster unofficial response track to Meek Mills recent twitter rant, Drake returns with a second diss track that Meek really wasn’t ready for. Appropriately titled “Back to Back” The 6God came through today with some heat and shook the game up in a way only a Canadian could. Meek has the number 1 album in the country right now, a world tour AND the sexiest female MC on his hip but he better watch his step before Drake steals his short-lived spotlight. Look for the 3rd round to kick off whenever Meek gets home from the studio with a diss track of his own, and you can bet it’s only a day or two from dropping.

50 Cent almost Scott Free?

Well it’s about time someone served Fif a little justice, too bad they didn’t do a great job. After originally seeking $20 million in damages for releasing her sextape, Lestonia Leviston will have to settle for $6 million instead. Now this might seem like a steep fine for most, but for an individual valued at close to $140 million last year by Forbes, 50 Cent got off rather easily. Thanks to some tricky bankruptcy clauses, a few white lies and a winning smile, the queens rapper looks to have escaped this situation fairly unscathed or scott free if you will.

Bye Bye Bobby Shmurda…

What should you not do after being incarcerated for a possible 25yr sentence? Get caught with a weapon and add another 7-12 years. Seems like common sense right? Well, apparently nobody ever shared this valuable information with Bobby Shmurda and now the young Brooklyn sensation might have just sealed his own fate. After being caught trying to pass Shmurda a home-made weapon during a recent visit, his girlfriend now face charges of her own while Shmurda faces additional ones. There was already a very small chance Shmurda would be released in time to recapture his relevancy and now things seem to be leaning dangerously towards “not a chance in hell”.

Birdman, Angie & the Interview.

Birdman’s recent interview with Angie Martinaz is best described as a steaming pile of “maybe they’ll fall for it?”. After a solid year of beef, altercations, legal feuds and public frustration on both ends, Birdman attempts to pass off his current situation with Lil’ Wayne as totally fine. But who knows? Maybe throwing bottles at Wayne during a performance, is how Birdman expresses his mutal respect? Or maybe Birdman’s recent involvement in an investigation involving a murder attempt on Wayne is forcing him to play nice. Either way, the Hip-Hop community isn’t buying this “it’s all good” notion and so we patiently wait for the next ridiculous update in this convoluted story.

Summer 2014 In Review!

Wuddduupp friends?! WE’RE BACK! Well, we’ve been here all summer but I mean school. School is back. Whether you are sad summer is over or happy that Fall semester is starting, it doesn’t matter because class is now in session. That being said, we can’t forget all the gems that came out of this summer. There was a ton going on including releases, singles, beef, and of course super dope festivals. We recapped all this and more live on the show but take a look below for a  nice medley of the biggest tracks of the summer that was…

Hol uhhh hol uhhh hol uhhhh. Whether you mess with it or nah, this track had guys (and girls) turning way up all summer long.

Forget Miley Cyrus, Bobby Shmurda came in like wrecking ball this summer with ‘Hot Hitter’. Just call it a 3M dollar smash. Word to Epic.

Keeping the sing alongs strong this summer was none other than ATL’s Rae Sremmurd. They knoooooow better.

My anaconda DON’T! Nicki Nicki Nicki back with another provocative track that took over the second half of the summer.

Drizzy Drake remixed Tinashe’s already smash hit and made it even hotter. We love to get on…

As if Drake couldn’t get any more heaters, he drops this gem that us going 0-100 real quick.

Carter V coming soon. That is all…

Did we miss any? Let us know on Twitter and make sure to catch us from 8-10pm every Wednesday from here on out.

Yall Gon Learn Today!

Wuddduupp yall?! Hope everyone is having a good reading  sleeping week and such. Yall know we’re over here keeping it all the way real. We had a few technical difficulties to start but we bounced right back and gave yall some of that classic Kamo and ScottyG RapUp sounds.

We kicked things off with a new Mac Miller track called ‘Diablo’. Sounds like a throw away that didn’t make WMWTSO but anyways you slice it, its got some nice flow + bars. Lines like “I’m poppin like a kernel, reading Justin Bieber’s journal” make yall sucka MCs take notes. Check it out right here.

In other news, Kanye is ranting again, Drake is beefing with a magazine, The College Dropout turned 10 and Dipset is getting that much closer to reconnect for a tour/album. Wooooo *Rick Flare voice*

REAL OR RATCHET was a little unorthodox this time around. Instead of giving a list the yay or nay, I read off a list of rappers that have graduated from college and had Kamo guess which major they walked out with. Some of them were pretty interesting. For example, Remy Ma is a certified electrical engineer and Rick Ross graduated with a degree in criminal justice. Weird, right? Anyways, Kamo got 3-26 right. Think you can do better? Check the list right here and let us know how you did! College educated, she graduated…

GLAYSH’S GUILTY PLEASURE came from the originator of the segment. Mr. Rozay is gearing up to drop a new album in March and he recently leaked his track with Jeezy to build a little more hype. Annnd man is this song hype. It’s called ‘War Ready’ and yall already know MikeWillMadeIt. Give errrr a quick listen right below for the full turn up effect. Unnnghhhhhh

THE REALNESS was a little bit of an oxymoron. If you’ve been rocking with us for a while, you’d know that we usually give Nicki Minaj a hard time. She lets us down day in and day out with these teeny-bopper radio hits, soo yes, Nicki can miss us with that. BUT the Young Money mistress has been giving us bars-galore as of late. She recently freestyled over PTAF’s ‘Boss Ass Bitch’ beat and Young Thug’s ‘Danny Glover’ beat. Wanna know the one thing they have in common? Punchlines and aggression. That’s right. I said it. We are sometimes too quick to dismiss Nicki’s lyrical abilities because she is making radio hit garbage. Anyways, check out our podcast below and take in this week’s bad gyal Realness.

VERSE OF THE WEEK was Valentine’s Day esque. In the past we’ve gone head to head with ‘Sexiest Verse’ and most ‘Romantic Verse’ BUT this week we took it a little deeper. *Pause* We thought we’d see who could come with the best verse to make love to. You heard me. This verse would have to get both parties in the mood to get down and duuurty. I chose Drake’s verse off Robin Thicke’s ‘Teach You A Lesson’ and Kamo chose Drake’s second verse off ‘Fancy’. Winner? It was tie. Therefore both are deemed “smashable”.

Well, that’s all from us this week. Check us out on the 26th as we will give giving you more from the world of rap music. Make sure to join the conversation of Twitter by following us right here —-> @RLRapUp
