The Game V.s. Weak Mill

Meek Mill should honestly retire from hip hop and and go somewhere and chill. In all honesty, Weak is not made for beefs in hip hop. According to the Game, Weak Mill snitched on him regarding Sean Kingston getting robbed in the club in LA for his jewelry. Game reported on Instagram that he did not rob Sean Kingston. Game’s with Weak Mill is because he snitched on him, Game flowed through with a diss track to Weak titled “92 Bars” which definitely had some bars and totally annihilated Weak Mill. Meek obviously followed with a diss track of his own titled “OOOOUUU Remix” featuring Beanie Sigel and Omelly (the roadie).

Meek’s track wasn’t as good as Game’s but that was expected. Weak Mill is becoming the Ja Rule of today’s rap game as far as beef goes and his career is almost at its end. He has peaked and climax. I personally don’t think he can go back to being the old Meek Mill. Meek has had his run in hip hop, although it was short lived, he is the wife of Nicki Minaj, I mean that’s kind of a come up, I guess.

Kanye on the Gram

For some reason, two of the biggest and most influential people in the music industry simply refuse to create an account with Instagram. Of course I’m referring Jay Z and Kanye West. It appears Kanye has caved as a brand new and even ‘verified’ IG account has been recently discovered. At the moment there’s only one picture uploaded from the account and NO it’s not a warm smiling selfie. Instead, Kanye opted for a rather obscure picture depicting a scene from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1990 film, Total Recall (see below).

It’ll be interesting to see where this goes and if Mr. west is here to stay. Which makes this story slightly ironic considering his Wife and her siblings (Kim Kardashian & Kylie Jenner) have the most followers on Instagram in the world.

Birds In Waterloo Sing McKnight

Almost a full year later, fans now have Travis Scott’s second studio album, Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight, firmly in their hands. The album dropped September 2nd and has already surpassed sales expectations.

The sound of the album is best described as experimental layers of sound and acidic instrumentals that intertwine with raw, unpolished, and heavily filtered vocals that convey an enthusiasm that has come to be known only as Travis Scott.

The features aren’t too surprising, except for Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000, and the absence of Justin Bieber. While that might sound like an odd combination, the two are actually quite close with each other and Bieber even appeared on his last album, Rodeoon one of the standout tracks.

Week 08: After Class Summer Edition

DJ Deej and DJ Stretch made it back to the studio. Deej is still on the wave that followed OVO Fest 2016 / Summer Sixteen Tour. She went on the Monday night and saw Roy Wood$, dvsn, Popcaan, French Montana, Rihanna, and Kanye West as the special guests. Future performed all of his best hits and features, and of course, Drake gave a performance only worthy of the 6IX. DJ Stretch is heading to his first wedding at legal drinking again this weekend. He suggested to the bride and groom that they use “Cold Water” by Major Lazer ft. Justin Bieber as their entrance song. Will they? We’ll find out.

Sophia Vergara, the AMA’s!

SO the highly anticipated wedding of Sophia Vergara and Joe Manganello was this weekend and was absolutely beautiful! The couple, who has been engaged since, I believe  2014, traded vows over the weekend with nearly 400 guests, which included Reese Witherspoon, Channing Tatum and wife Jenna Dewan, Stephen Moyer and Sofia’s Modern Family cast mates. The wedding was absolutely beaituful but can we just talk about sofias dress for a minute. Sofia looked unbelievable in her Mark Zunino gown. But get this…the gown is covered in more than 11 pounds of sequins, 350 crystals and 6 pounds of pearls. She posted many photos on her instagram if you guys want to check them out!

ALL that AMA’S! First of all, JLO killed it as host. She kicked off the night in a dance routine that highlighted some of the year’s biggest hits like Where Are U Now, Anaconda, Uptown Funk! and Drake’s Hotline Bling. It was AMAZING I didn’t even know JLO could dance like that so seriously go check it out!

One Direction managed to repeat as artist of the year and also won favourite pop/rock duo or group of the year.  The Weeknd walked away with two awards and performed their hit song “the hills”.

The talk of the town, Justin Bieber, won best collaboration with Diplo and Skrillex. He closed the night in a rain soaked production piece with a medley of his hits Sorry, Where Are U Now and What Do You Mean. There was literally water just pouring down on him while he performed it was pretty sweet.

One of the most moving moments of the night was  when Céline Dion payed tribute to the victims of the recent Paris attacks by singing Edith Piaf’s Hymne à L’Amour in front of a string section and a montage of images of famous Paris sites.

Tune in next week for more Entertainment Insight!

The Rap Up: Weekly Check-In

Kendrick Lamar Came to My wedding

Is something most people would pay unreasonable amounts of money to have happen however for one couple Californian couple, that wish came true. However, yeah theres a big HOWEVER… not only did they not recognize the superstar or know who he is but were pretty offened that him and his friends decided to crash the venue. Apparently things got pretty obvious once Kdot started “dabbing” (a dance move btw) around the dance floor and when they couldn’t give the names of who actually got married they were asked less than politely to leave. With a camera in hand, it’s possible the group was simply trying to make a music video but thanks the “happy couple” we’ll never know.

Albums all around

Well if you were looking to strengthen your playlist game this week, you’re in luck. On November 13th Jeezy came with his 6th studio album, Church In These Streets, and Ty Dolla $ign finally gave us his debut album, Free TC. We’re not yet though, throw in a very solid album courtesy of Logic who’s been producing great music recently, add Skeme’s newest project, and of course Justin Bieber’s Purpose. While JB probably won’t see life in our show sets we know some of yall be downloading the deluxe version low key, and theres no judgements here. Also, we’re sorry if we indirectly increase your bandwidth download for this month.

Drake, the love is mutal

Think about it… who really loves Toronto more than Drizzy Drake? He’s not only the Toronto Raptors Global Ambassador, but brings the biggest names in music to the Molson amphitheatre every year for his OVO Fest which has become such a big money maker, its now receiving funding from the government. While we still don’t forgive Octobers Very Own for the whole “Yolo” thing, it’s difficult to find someone below the age of 30 not referring to the GTA as ‘The 6’? Apparently Toronto has finally taken notice of the enormous swing the young man has in the city and have appropriately named him as the most influential person in Toronto. Drake has claimed this as the most important magazine cover of his career and seeing as it’s a Toronto Newspaper, that doesn’t surprise us.

Week 09: November 17, 2015

DJ Deej and DJ S-Goods were joined by DJ Goldilocks on the show. She is going to be hosting After Class on Thursdays from 10-11 p.m. She’s a Communication Studies major at Laurier. Our Tuesday host threw her right into the ring, and she came out looking like Holm, rather than Ronda Rousey. That fight over the weekend has been greeted with nothing but silence from Ronda, and we are curious to know what her next move is going to be.

Charlie Sheen has revealed to the public that he is HIV-Positive, and has been for the last four years. Six of his previous partners have come out, saying that they’re suing him. We plan to follow this story over the course of the coming weeks. All DJs predict that many other women will come forward with accusations and claims that they had Charlie Sheen as a sexual partner, and that they had no idea about his positive status.

Facial reconstruction has hit a new peak. After 26 hours and the work of 100 physicians taking 2 hour shifts, a full “faceplant” was performed on a firefighter. The Guardian wrote a full report on the ground-breaking medical procedure. To read more, click here: Full Face Transplant.

Justin Bieber’s Purpose leaked last week, and the visuals for every single song came out over the weekend. Some are referring to it as the “Beyonce effect.” Pitchfork rated the album at 6.2 out of 10, and all of our DJs agree that the album is generational. Bieber did not go into the project with the intention of gaining new fans, but to regain his original “Beliebers” that followed his work when he dropped, “One Time.” It is predicted that the album will do well upon its official release.

This week’s track list is as follows:

  1. WTF (Where They From) – Missy Elliott ft. Pharrell Williams
  2. Hello (VXSUAL Remix) – Adele
  3. Alive – Sia
  4. Hotline Bling – Drake
  5. Hands on the Wheel (Schoolboy Q Mash-Up) – Project X Soundtrack
  6. Swimming Pools x You and Me – Kendrick Lamar and Eliza Doolittle
  7. Antidote – Travi$ Scott
  8. Girls Born in the 90’s – The Weeknd
  9. Chasing Time (Nous Remix) – Azealia Banks

Week 08: November 10, 2015

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a UFO? DJ Deej and DJ S-Goods discussed the supposed alien and UFO sighting in Los Angeles, California over the weekend. It is said to be light pollution from a missile, but they beg to differ. S-Goods said that this all happened in time for Star Wars, and Deej said that after watching Matt Damon’s The Martian, anything is possible.

June 2016 may seem like a long way away, but the first official trailer for Finding Dory was released. Both Deej and S-Goods are super enthused. It is such a generational film, which will be enjoyed by 20-somethings and kids alike. All of the original cast members are returning for the highly anticipated film. If you haven’t watched the trailer, you can find it here: Finding Dory Official Trailer.

Lastly, the Biebs is back! He has released three songs in the last week. The first is titled, “I’ll Show You,” and then he released two more. They are called, “The Feeling,” which features Halsey, and “Love Yourself,” which is co-written by Ed Sheeran. The full track list for Purpose is available of Consequence of Sound, and will have features by Big Sean and Travi$ Scott. You can find the link on our Facebook page, Radio Laurier’s After Class.

This week’s track list is as follows:

  1. I Got You – Duke Dumont
  2. Me, Myself & I  – G-Eazy ft. Bebe Rexha
  3. I’ll Show You – Justin Bieber
  4. Voices – Disclosure ft. Sasha Keable
  5. I Want You – Luke James
  6. Something About You (ODESZA Remix) – Hayden James
  7. Barcelona – George Ezra
  8. Go DJ – Childish Gambino
  9. Mind – Skrillex and Diplo ft. Kaia
  10. The Feeling – Justin Bieber ft. Halsey

Tuesdays from 10-11 p.m. Tune in, and turn up.
