The Morning After More Life

This week, DJ Goldilocks and DJ O$AP began saying their goodbyes to Radio Laurier and their listeners for this school year. Crazy to think how quickly the time’s passed…but as sad as it is to say goodbye to this year, they hoped their playlist of the morning gave you More Life.

That’s right, DJ Goldilocks and DJ O$AP jammed out this morning to Drake’s newly-released album, More Life. They discussed the album’s track list and some of the featured artists.

Currently, their favourite tracks are: Ice Melts feat. Young Thug (DJ O$AP’s choice), and Get It Together (DJ Goldilocks’ choice). They made special mention of the songs Passionfruit and Gyalchester. They also compared the similar beats to some of the songs in More Life to that of Drake’s last album, Views. Could there have been some inspiration stemming from the popularity of One Dance to influence Passionfruit?

There were a few interludes on this album, which was more of a miss for these DJ’s. O$SAP and Goldilocks agreed that the interlude with Drake’s mother on the phone seems to be an overdone feature that many rap artists are including on their recent albums, for example Mac Miller in the Divine Feminine.

Drake really impressed the DJ’s with some of his featured artists, especially Young Thug! Young Thug is one of O$AP’s favourite rappers, and thinks he is one of the most underrated rappers.

If you want to hear more of Young Thug’s music to see for yourself, here’s a few of his suggestions:

Track List (all from Drake’s album, More Life):

  • Passionfruit
  • Madiba Riddim
  • Blem
  • 4422 (feat. Sampha)
  • Ice Melts (feat. Young Thug)
  • Get It Together
  • Gyalchester
  • Glow
  • Fake Love

With the end of the semester fast approaching and Troy going on to Graduate after 5 years of Service to Wilfrid Laurier. We decided it was time to tell work how to make there way through the tough life that is post secondary education….. and the first thing we learned is… Learn how to handle your alcohol isn’t that right MARC!!!

Troy made the bold prediction that Marc wouldn’t make the show because he was going out the night before and… YESS GUY he was right… not very Bold but he was right.

For our Lyrical Breakdown we did ASHER Roth’s I love College… What a great song for the kids.. Some keys to this song,

  • “I wish we taped it”…. Drinking makes your forget
  • “Drink my drink and smoke”….  then says all he needs is his friends classic
  • College is about school that is one thing it seems Mr. Roth forgot about
  • Proper beer pong rules. 1. Don’t bounce, 2. Sink a cup or naked mile

Fridays Five College Tips

5. Don’t Explore your campus

4.  Time Management

15hrs of Class Weekly

90hrs of sleep Weekly (12 a day)

63hrs of free time weekly (can be substituted, with drinking and partying)

  • 28 food prep weekly
  • 5 of YouTube work meme
  • 5 movies and tv

3. Money: school is expensive…. But heyy you gotta spend money to make money so if you want a good paying job when yo graduate.. spend all you can now rack up debt on 2 am pizzas and buy that 5 dollar coffee so that you can stay up past midnight

2. Making Friends…. will just get in your way of being a happy successful strudent who is well rounded… bunker down In the libarary sit alone in class and study hard

1. Classes: Withdraw from courses as much as possible… why even go all the time just gets in the way of your real life!

Well thats all the time we have today folks… Party without the smoke

With it being award season, we decided to do our own version of some of the Oscars’ highest awards, for all-time movies. We’re no stranger to blunders on the show, so we feel the pain of the people behind the Oscars confusion last weekend. Expectations were not high for our version. The awards we gave and the winners were:

Best Costume Design: Halloween series

Best Hair and Makeup: Mrs. Doubtfire

Best Supporting Actor: Nicholas Cage – Face/Off

Best Supporting Actress: Kirsten Dunse – Spiderman series

Best Lead Actor: Buddy from Air Bud

Best Picture: Forgetting Sarah Mars….WAIT there’s been a mistake. Sharknado!!

Congrats to our winners, truly all great performances. Troy accepted his award for second-best cohost with this non-cliche speech:

“Wow… I cant believe this is surreall wow…. Umm where to start there are so many….

Id like to thank ohhh man I don’t wanna miss anyone. I mean first I have to start with… I mean this person has been there for me through think and thin and I wouldn’t be where I am without them…. But I don’t wanna forget anyone else so thank you to everyone and if theres anyone im forgetting you know who you are I mean wow I cant believe it this wow thank you I don’t deserve this but wow thanks!!!”

We also discussed how going to a movie is a great first date idea because you have a legit excuse not to talk to each other!

That’s about it for this week, thanks for tuning in and you’ll hear from us next week! Party without the smoke!

Anyone else mail it in before reading week? Good, us too. Midterms and assignments got us feeling lethargic so we decided to not put any effort into the show this week and let the fans decide how the show went. We took questions from some Friends of the Show on social media and shaped the show around them. Got some great questions, including to make up our own sport, what is March Madness, why girls have it easier at the bar, and whether we think there’s a future between Ivanka Trump and Justin Trudeau. Check out the audio and FB Live of the show below for the answers. Since we’re mailing it in, the Friday’s Five was centred around the top 5 things we love getting in the mail…

5 ) Christmas Cards

4 ) Packages one month from ordering

3 ) Pets

2 ) Key that opens the bigger mailbox

1 ) Brides

Thanks for listening and reading and we hope you have a great reading week. Stay safe, don’t read, and party without the smoke.

Williams & Williams in the Morning – February 10th

Our show this week didn’t make a lotta cents, but we’ll never change, you can bank on that. Money jokes, gotta give us credit for that. Currency show this week and boy did we have a lot on the bill! More money jokes, more problems. Alright we’ll stop. We had Canadian legends Chad Kroeger from Nickelback and swymnast Penny Oleksiak on the show today, imparting wisdom on how they rich and famous, something we can’t relate to. Chad broke down his lyrics to “Photograph” for us, and Penny talked us through her recent commitment to University of Iqaluit. This week’s Friday’s Five ranked the Canadian bank notes and added a fun fact nobody knows about the people that are on them. They were:

5 ) Sir John A. MacDonald ($10) – posed as a lumberjack, most iconic photo of all-time

4 ) Queen Elizabeth II ($20) – first woman to vote ever, voted herself in as Queen

3 ) Robert Borden ($100) – invented the electronic organizer

2 ) William Lyon Mackenzie King ($50) – got nicknamed Lyon because of lyin’

1 ) Wilfrid Laurier ($5) – named after parents’ alma mater, baldness in picture was photoshopped

It was a rich show this week and we can’t take credit for all the jokes, some were on loan, but we’ll budget more time to plan next week’s show. Thanks as always for tuning in, and remember, party without the smoke.

Williams & Williams in the Morning Click Bait – February 3, 2017

Morning folks, welcome to Super Bowl weekend 2017. For those that don’t know, the Super Bowl is a football game with four quarters that are 12 mins each and a halftime show, and the team that scores the most points wins. It’s also played on a Sunday. You might know the Super Bowl more, though, as an excuse to get drunk and eat greasy food, fair enough. Our show this week was completely dedicated to gearing up for the biggest Sunday of the calendar year, giving you guys advice as to what to make sure you have in order to make the most out of the day. Our Friday’s Top Five things to have this Sunday for watching the Super Bowl are:

5 ) Kleenex box just in case

4 ) A specific place to sit or stand for 4 hours

3 ) Food, Drinks of all shapes and sizes

2 ) Eye Sight

1 ) A Television

Obviously some of those are easier to obtain than others if you don’t already have them. We were also graced with the phone-call presence of Super Bowl quarterbacks Tom Brody and Mitt Ryan, both with lots of inspirational things to say about being superior athletes, like drinking beers at 10:30am every day to make sure you get a good sleep by 1:00pm. Genius. Thanks for tuning in again this week and enjoy yourselves on Super Bowl weekend, and remember, party without the smoke.
