It’s about that time of year when we all need a little inspiration. Who better to turn to than the master of inspiration, DJ Khaled. We were lucky enough to be graced with his presence today as he flew in from his latest show in Antarctica last night, and gave one of the best interviews in Williams & Williams history. We learned that his favourite pizza topping is artichokes, his favourite donut is Boston Cream, he would hate it if we only called him Khaled, and that he loves to say “grind”. Like way too much. Anyways, thanks DJ Khaled for taking the time to drop in. The theme of the show being inspiration station, we turned our Friday’s Five segment into a Friday’s Fifty, and rhymed off all the “_____ation station” phrases we could think of, and what they mean. For the sake of laziness, here’s our top 5:

5) Intoxication station – the bar

4) Procrastination station – the library

3) Documentation station – the border

2) Marination station – chicken in a bag, or the couch

1) Innovation Station – Thomas Edison’s basement

As always, thanks for tuning in and interacting and we hope that you’re feeling a little more inspired. Cheers to the weekend and remember, party without the smoke.

The Morning After… The Weeknd

This week was certainly a big one for DJ O$AP and Goldilocks! As many of you already know, Starboy is finally here! Quite possibly the biggest musical day of the year for the two DJ’s, since their common love for The Weeknd is the reason this radio show exists! There’s been half a week’s worth of talk and debate about this highly anticipated album and you can rest assured that they were not disappointed. Eighteen brand new songs, with the exceptions of the four premature releases, and a single seductive interlude featuring the lovely Lana Del Ray. The Weeknd kept the feature list pretty simple with Starboy, but there’s no let down when you see the names Daft Punk, Future, Kendrick Lamar and a sneaky untitled feature of Sam Smith in the song Sidewalks. If you didn’t get to see the anxiety provoking teaser trailer called M A N I A that the Weeknd released just before the album came out, there’s a link below where you can check it out! It was almost torturous to watch short clips of his new unreleased songs just a few hours before the official album release, but the high intensity of the video clips in the trailer were once again, surpassed all expectations!

It’s safe to say that the music world is in agreeance that the new album is good… but how good? Does it compare to those timeless songs we heard on the album Kissland and the mixtapes from Trilogy? Well, after admitting Goldilocks was a die-hard Hilary Duff fan, and O$AP has been in love with Ellie Goulding since early high school, it was agreed that both DJs’ music taste heightened when they found a mutual love for The Weeknd. The early productions of The Weeknd are what defined their new favourite artist; his unique sound and vibe setting him apart from any other artist on the market. It would take a lot for The Weeknd to top his original work, and after much debate Goldilocks and O$AP have decided that they need more time with the album to truly decide if it is on par… stay tuned each week to stay updated on their debates!

Angel, from Beauty Behind the Madness is arguably one of The Weeknd’s  most original, ear-catching songs ever released. The vocals and lyrics of the track provided The Weeknd with an anthem that truly resonated with his fans. The biggest question about the new Starboy album is which song, if any, is able to compete with Angel? Thus far, Die For You stolen the hearts of both DJ’s but unfortunately does not quite measure up to the Angel standard. Though the track really gets those university emotions flowing, it just doesn’t seem to hit as hard as that heartstring-plucking anthem Angel.

It’s easy for the DJ’s to give their opinions on the album… but how is the rest of the world feeling about The Weeknd? Well, it’s safe to say Starboy is destroying the music charts and held the #1 spot in 80 countries within a mere 24 hours after release! Looks like it’s a lot more than just Goldilocks and O$AP that are falling in love with these tracks. He has taken over the music charts, claiming 18 of the top 20 songs!

On a far less important, but still awesome note, O$AP got a new phone! To end this week’s show, the DJ’s had a quick discussion about the new Google Pixel and the awesome new V.R. features it holds. For those who don’t know, V.R. or “virtual reality” is an exciting new technology that’s getting noticed fast. It’s a visual and audio experience that places you in a new virtual graphic world where a V.R. headset accessory allows you to interact with the simulated environment. It even has zombie games! Um, NO! Goldilocks and O$AP won’t be tough enough to play those games for quite some time. They’ll be taking the much more relaxing, scenic route for now… enjoying the simulated butterflies and calming lakes! If you want to learn some more and check it out, take a look at some of the links and videos down below!

Thank you so much for tuning in with us this morning! Have a wicked week Laurier, good luck to everyone preparing for their final exams and working on those last minute final assignents! We’ll be back next Monday morning! (probably still fan-girling over the Weeknd)

We are. After a week off, we came back hot with a show to do with everything back-related. The part of your body, the door, the room, whatever. Usually we count down our Friday’s Five at the end of the show, but we put our brainstorming skills to the test and came up with a Friday’s Twenty-Five back-related things instead. For the sake of having too much time on our hands, we broke them up into categories:

Top 5: Entertainment – 5) Backgammon 4) Back to the Future 3) Backstreet Boys 2) Back to Back – Drake 1) Laying on your back counting stars

Top 5: Places – 5) Backs against the wall 4) Back alley 3) Back to School 2) Walmart Rollback 1) Back stage

Top 5: Movement – 5) Looking back 4) Fighting back 3) Back flips 2) Backbone Slide 1) Piggy back rides

Top 5: Body/Fashion – 5) Backhand (always wash it) 4) Back breaking work 3) Business in the front, party in the back 2) Backless dresses 1) Backwards hats

Top 5: Things We Love – 5) Backpacks 4) Fall back plans 3) Back bacon 2) Baby back ribs 1) Back massages

We learned a lot this week, like not to drink coffee hungover, not to run up or down escalators, and that our predictions are always right, no questions asked. Thanks for tuning in again, and if you missed it you can click the link below for the audio:

The Morning After…. The Ama’s

The Morning After…. The Ama’s

Did you catch the AMA’s last night? …Neither did DJ Goldilocks and DJ O$AP, so they decided to go through the winners and debrief the show!

There were a lot of expected winners for this years award show… like Justin Bieber’s Purpose album winning Favourite Pop/Rock Album. However there were also some winners that the DJ’s did not think deserved to win their awards. Who, you might ask? Well for starters… Selena Gomez winning Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist.

It is undeniable that Selena has some catchy songs. But it is highly debatable that she earned this award. Have you heard her sing live? Her talent is sub par, at best. The real talent behind her music is just that… behind the scenes. Her producers and the people that create her music do a fantastic job of creating upbeat, catchy songs that are fun to sing along to but Selena is merely a face for the music. Without the auto tune Selena fails to match the talent that is perceived on the radio. There are so many talented artists in this category that would be much more deserving of this title but unfortunately she was able to snag the award.

Another upset for the DJ’s was the winner of the Collab of the Year: Work From Home. Again, a catchy song… but of all the collab songs over the last year, was this really the best one? The DJ’s don’t think so. Kendrick Lamar, for example, has collaborated with many artists over the last year and it surprised both DJ’s that none of these songs were the chosen winner for this category.

Although the DJ’s were mildly disappointed with some of the winners from this year’s AMA’s, they are still looking forward to all of the music the new year will bring! What’s even more exciting? The Weeknd releasing his new album in FOUR DAYS!! There have been two new released songs: Party Monster, and I Feel It Coming. Stay tuned next week while the DJ’s play through and discuss the album!!

Thank you for tuning in this week with The Morning After! Have a great week Laurier!

The Morning After: Essays and ‘Merica!
Shows/The Morning Show

The Morning After: Essays and ‘Merica!

Without it being too obvious, this weeks morning after class was all about ‘Merica!

This week DJ O$AP and Goldilocks had a mature discussion about their views of the long and dreadful election. To a lot of surprise, the Donald and his gorgeous head of hair, are moving into the White House and he’s not getting paid! You’ve either gotta keep hating the guy or learn to love him because the deed is done now. With not so similar views on who should have been elected, this morning after session was a DJ mind-opener, as O$AP and Goldilocks threw some knowledge towards each other.

Can’t figure out how to write your essays and prepare for assignments? Maybe not your best scholarly source for academic advice, however, O$AP and Goldilocks wanted to share their opinions on how to study best and prepare for your tests and essays (hopefully you do better though). Try picking topics you don’t agree with or know about, learn a new perspective and see what you think!

As always, have an outstanding week, and we’ll be back to share more on monday!

Williams & Williams in the Morning – November 11, 2016

How’s it hanging?  Us too. This week’s show was all about our furry friends. All of the songs, and an interview with our buddy Jim Pazkinski from Jim’s Pet Depot were about animals. Jim’s Top 5 pets to adopt were:

  1. Pete the Porcupine
  2. Larry the Llama
  3. Ricky (RIP Ronny) the Rhino
  4. Jess the Jellyfish
  5. Kevin the Killer Whale

Thanks again to Jim for taking time out of his busy schedule to call in and chat. The accent is coming along nicely pal. Today, take some time to reflect on those who have served and continue to serve our country protecting our freedom. Also, best of luck to our Football team headed to Western for the Yates Cup this Saturday. Cheers to the weekend and remember, party without the smoke.
