October 10th show!

Hey there listeners! Thanks for tuning in this week, this week’s artist spotlight will be Paper Lions. Here’s a link to their website! http://paperlions.com/ I love this band for several reasons. The first reason is that they’re Canadian and, Canadian artists often go unrecognized. Paper Lions also have quite the diverse repertoire, their sound can go from folksy sounding to indie rock in a heartbeat. These guys also have a great story behind them. The record label that they had signed with first did not pay them! That’s right, these guys saw no money from their first couple of albums. It turns out that they have stayed with the same record label and they are going to be paid all of what they deserve. I don’t know if it took a lawsuit or just a whole lot of nagging! The Paper Lions came out of the issues around making money with a happy ending which is splendid because they can get back to producing killer tunes! They are currently based out of Charlottetown PEI, a friend of mine from PEI actually showed me these guys which in my opinion makes them even cooler! I absolutely love it when people show me rad artists. Here is the track list of tonight’s show! You can follow along while you listen to the show!

The Rap UP: Beam Me Up Scotty

Beam Me Up Scotty

The Internet always seems to operate at its best whenever there’s a highly anticipated album about to drop. This time was no exception as fans now have their hands on Travis Scott’s Rodeo in all of its chaotic lean-fueled glory days before its original release date. While the album doesn’t have much direction, personality or sense, all 16 tracks bang as hard as you could hope for, and can be best described as drug induced space-rap. And we mean space, as in chrome helmets, lazers and spaceship parties. Most of the sounds used are unusual, futuristic, grimy and require a high end speaker system with tons of bass to truly be appreciated. Definitely the album to be bumping on your friend’s new car stereo.

The West Wing

As the internet scrambles to concoct the cleverest pun for this situation, Kanye West prepares to run for President of The United States. No you didn’t read that wrong, but we understand if you really want to double check. During the MTV VMA’s last Sunday, Kanye West was not only presented an award by none other than Taylor Swift who years before was interrupted by Kanye while receiving an award herself, but continued on to deliver a speech as confusing as it was entertaining. In that speech he made many notable and unusual quotes but none was better than admitting to “rolling one up” before coming on stage. Soon after, Mr. West practically broke twitter with his announcement that he’s running for presidential office in the year 2020, but hey, if that walking hair piece they call Donald Trump can be taken seriously, so can Yeezy.

Happy birthday Harden

It shouldn’t be any surprise James Harden’s birthday bashes are better than yours. After all, hosted by the Kardashians on a yacht is the way to do it. Throw in a lot of famous friends, couple photo bombs, an epic fireworks show and an all-white dress code and all of sudden you’re almost at P. Diddy level. Harden’s girlfriend Khloe Kardashian was present with most of her family including Kim, Kanye, Tyga and Kylie Jenner who all participated in some photo booth antics. Congrats on turning 26 James!

The Rap Up: Your Weekly Hip-Hop Fix

Pusha T is on it!

It’s been almost two years since Pusha T’s last album and he knows fans are getting tired of waiting. Don’t worry though, Pusha says he’s been feverishly trying to finish his highly anticipated KING PUSH by the end of the month. That’s right! Pusha T wants you strolling to lecture with possibly Hip-Hop album of year in your back pocket.

Straight Outta Compton… To The Bank

First weekend sales are in for Straight Outta Compton, and it looks like $60.2 million worth of people are throwing up the West Side all over North America. With a historic box office opening weekend, Dr. Dre’s newest album Compton has done quite well itself boasting an impressive 280,000 copies falling short to only Kendrick Lamar and Drake.

Eenie Meenie Miney Mo, Catch a Tyga By The Toe

I know, I know, that was corny, but then again so is Tyga. With a new mixtape on the way set to release August 24th, Tyga looks to prove he’s worth more than his infamous relationship with Kylie Jenner. With rumors of Kylie learning to make music, this might be the perfect opportunity for a really interesting feature.

Drizzy x Meek: Round 2

Its round 2 ladies and gentleman, and Drake takes it in a unanimous decision. Don’t believe the hype? All the #backtoback Twitter memes will tell you different. Just days after dropping a rather lack-luster unofficial response track to Meek Mills recent twitter rant, Drake returns with a second diss track that Meek really wasn’t ready for. Appropriately titled “Back to Back” The 6God came through today with some heat and shook the game up in a way only a Canadian could. Meek has the number 1 album in the country right now, a world tour AND the sexiest female MC on his hip but he better watch his step before Drake steals his short-lived spotlight. Look for the 3rd round to kick off whenever Meek gets home from the studio with a diss track of his own, and you can bet it’s only a day or two from dropping.

50 Cent almost Scott Free?

Well it’s about time someone served Fif a little justice, too bad they didn’t do a great job. After originally seeking $20 million in damages for releasing her sextape, Lestonia Leviston will have to settle for $6 million instead. Now this might seem like a steep fine for most, but for an individual valued at close to $140 million last year by Forbes, 50 Cent got off rather easily. Thanks to some tricky bankruptcy clauses, a few white lies and a winning smile, the queens rapper looks to have escaped this situation fairly unscathed or scott free if you will.

Bye Bye Bobby Shmurda…

What should you not do after being incarcerated for a possible 25yr sentence? Get caught with a weapon and add another 7-12 years. Seems like common sense right? Well, apparently nobody ever shared this valuable information with Bobby Shmurda and now the young Brooklyn sensation might have just sealed his own fate. After being caught trying to pass Shmurda a home-made weapon during a recent visit, his girlfriend now face charges of her own while Shmurda faces additional ones. There was already a very small chance Shmurda would be released in time to recapture his relevancy and now things seem to be leaning dangerously towards “not a chance in hell”.

Birdman, Angie & the Interview.

Birdman’s recent interview with Angie Martinaz is best described as a steaming pile of “maybe they’ll fall for it?”. After a solid year of beef, altercations, legal feuds and public frustration on both ends, Birdman attempts to pass off his current situation with Lil’ Wayne as totally fine. But who knows? Maybe throwing bottles at Wayne during a performance, is how Birdman expresses his mutal respect? Or maybe Birdman’s recent involvement in an investigation involving a murder attempt on Wayne is forcing him to play nice. Either way, the Hip-Hop community isn’t buying this “it’s all good” notion and so we patiently wait for the next ridiculous update in this convoluted story.
