It’s a Bugs Life
Today on The Morning After we had a unique interview, to say the least. Kyra and Marcel joined us from the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory to talk to us about Chocolate BugFeast happening this March Break.
Usually, we’re the ones asking our guests to answer random questions, but today Champagne Tiny and Steffy Wap were put on the spot and asked to try some chocolate bugs.
Yes, you read that correctly, we each ate one cricket powder chocolate cookie, one white chocolate bark with crushed up cricket, and one whole cricket chocolate drop. We also tried fried cricket seasoned with chili lime.
After trying all four here are our rankings:
#1 The cookie – it tasted like a Two Bite Brownie and you couldn’t even taste the cricket protein powder.
#2 The bark – the white chocolate gave it a sweet deceiving taste but it did have a crunch to it.
#3 The roasted lime chili flavored cricket – if this was on a salad we would have mistaken it for a pretzel or almond, uneasy at first to eat but definitely not that bad!
#5 The droplet – the legs were kind of sticking out… we’ll leave it at that.
Adding insects to the human diet is not a new thing. In fact, we learned today that 80% of the world population actually consumes insects regularly. For some reason, it is just North America not jumping on this trend. Kyra and Marcel talked to us about how they would love nothing more than this “insect stigma” to be broken.
Fun Fact: Loblaw is jumping on board and selling cricket powder as a PC product.
It was a creepy crawly morning, but definitely, one that Champagne Tiny and Steffy Wap will remember. We might even be more adventurous in trying new foods now!
Be sure to check out the Conservatory website to pre-purchase BugFeast tickets here and find out more information on the wonderful world of insects!
It’s Delicate
Taylor Swift dropped a video for Delicate at the iHeart Radio Awards this past weekend. We had some very mixed feelings about this. At moments it looked like she was imitating Sia’s Chandelier video. The song has a very similar vibe to her album Fearless so this video was somewhat disappointing because tbh Champagne Tiny was expecting something similar to Love Story or Wildest Dreams.
Grey’s Anatomy
Both of us love the show Grey’s Anatomy and we were heartbroken to hear the news that two of the most beloved characters will be written off the show after this season. The two characters are those of April Kepner and Arizona Robins. Champagne Tiny is taking this pretty hard as her favorite couple will never be together (RIP Japril). Hopefully, there is no bad blood between the cast and their stories get a justified end.
American Idol
New judges. New timeslot. New contestant. Same old TV host.
The re-launch of ABC’s American Idol premiered on Sunday with Ryan Seacrest hosting the first round of auditions. In 2016 we said goodbye to Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr., but this weekend we said hello to three fresh faces: Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.
The auditions were as usual, some outstanding and some brutally awful. But the one that stood out the most was an 18 year old boy form Arkansas. Right before he sang he said “Wig” and Katy responded “Wig” back. Luke and Lionel were completely confused and Katy said not to worry because it wasn’t “their language.”
Steffy Wap and Champagne Tiny took it upon themselves to look up “wig” as it is now trending on the internet. Katy Perry told Jimmy Kimmel this:
“When somebody basically sings really well and they ‘sang,’ they sing so well that the wig flies off. I’ve worn many wigs. Sometimes the glue is not strong enough to hold the vibrations and the wig flies all across the room. That’s when you know you can really ‘sang.”
Be sure to tune in Sunday’s and Monday’s at 8pm to catch all the American Idol action!
Champagne Tiny made a FIRE playlist this week featuring many of the slow rock band songs we sang along to in the 90s and 2000s.
Until next week. Stay Golden.
