Cap and Trade, the Green Party and #ShellNo

September 29, 2015 by Carolyn Withrow

On this week’s show we talked mostly about the cap and trade system (a system where there is a limit to how much a company can pollute, if they are below the limit companies can sell their pollution rights to other companies in a free market) and China’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions using this system as well as the New Democratic Party’s promise to implement a national cap and trade system should they be voted into power. We also looked at the Green Party’s basic platform with a focus on their idea of a carbon tax to lower Canada’s carbon emissions 38% by 2050 and the pros and cons of the carbon tax.

In our local news we talked about the Laurier Entrepreneurship Competition Kickoff Event happening Thursday in the Turret (there will be free food). Event details here

International news focused on the recent announcement that Shell will leave the arctic and abandon their plans to drill for oil in the arctic sea! #ShellNo! What a victory for environmental protection world wide!
