A Beard of Cats

Hello friends! Lunkis here.

Today’s Morning Show was silly as always, with Kpop and I fantasizing about owning a Radio Laurier creeper van with which to irritate and propagate around campus. It may only be a dream… but one day we’ll have our van.

In today’s entertainment news, Kpop brought up the internet phenomena of “catbearding“. Catbearding refers to the act of having your cat raise its head just below yours while you take a “selfie“, resulting in a beard made of feline. Based on the pictures provided, I’ve come to the conclusion that cats may also sometimes morph into human beards. It’s a beautiful thing! Newcomers to silly internet picture trends should also check out planking, vadering, and “hadoukening
We also made sure to continue our trend of life saving (and improving) how-to segments with How to Be Like James Bond. A couple of the steps in this how to had Kpop and I questioning which James Bond this list represents (as it’s certainly not Sean Connery’s depiction), though the steps are still beneficial. I’m on my way to becoming a secret agent myself! Now if only I could familiarize myself with the language of espionage. Then again, I’m sure I can learn everything about espionage with a few seasons of Archer.

Anyways, thanks for tuning in to today’s show! Be sure to check out TMS on Twitter and Facebook.

Tori and the Mates!

Hey folks!

Second show back from Reading Week and safe to say, we probably wouldn’t argue with having another! But as much fun as the week off was, it’s nice to be back in the studio! On today’s show, CP, Scotty, Lunkis, and myself, got caught up on everybody’s endeavors over the past week! I think CP wins the “most exciting break” award, as she was lucky enough to be enjoying the sun in the Dominican Republic!

Besides catching up, we also chatted about the Oscars, how to win a cat’s trust, and had a very special guest in the studio! Laurier Idol finalist, Tori Sutherland, joined us in the studio this morning for an interview before the big event tomorrow night. After hearing a little about her musical background and influences, and determining her band name one day should be Tori and the Mates, Scotty and Tori did a little Rapid Fire (which Tori aced!). Answering 15 questions in 1 minutes isn’t too bad!

Be sure to head on over to the Concourse tomorrow evening from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM to catch Tori among a number of other acts as they compete to be the winner of Laurier Idol! Not to mention, Morning Show and Sports Team will be there selling baked goods… treats and entertainment, what more could you ask for…

As always, tune into the Morning Show from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM! We have another show full of Laurier Idol finalist interviews tomorrow morning! Listen in!

The Greatest Think You’ll Ever Learn Is To Love and Be Loved In Return

Happy Valentines Day Goldenhdawks! DJs Skandy and Lunkis on this overcast yet romantically infused Morning Show. Today was all themed around the subject of love in all it’s complexity and majesty. Some of the highlights from today’s show were a list of 24 aphrodisiac foods courtesy of ehow.com which contained some surprising gastronomic information regarding the human anatomy’s reaction to aphrodisiac foods such as asparagus, basil and sea urchans. During What Grinds My Gears we had a special guest appearance of Autumn Smith from The Healthy Hawk who aided us in explaining that sometimes proper Valentines Day etiquette does not mean grand gestures and extravagant gifts. For some people Valentines Day is just a day to show one’s appreciation for their loved ones. Lastly, Skandy provided a little bit of history behind Valentines Day’s origin.

Thank you all for tuning in. Have a whimsical and/or romantic Valentines Day! Make this one memorable.

Sincerely,
Skandy

SPACE!

Hey all! If you joined us this morning, you heard an interview with Jean-Claude Piedboeuf, acting Director General of Space Exploration at the Canadian Space Agency.

Over the course of our 20 minute interview, Jean-Claude spoke with us about the upcoming Commander of the International Space Station, Chris Hadfield, and the exciting atmosphere that has been present within the Canadian Space Agency. Piedboeuf emphasized Hadfield’s image as an ideal Canadian role model; something exciting both for the CSA and Canadians nation-wide.

We also had the opportunity to speak briefly about why students should invest their interest in topics like space exploration and planetary science. As Piedboeuf described, current efforts in space are the accumulation of thousands of years of human exploration. From venturing across oceans, lakes, and land masses, we now found ourselves on the brink of a new frontier – deep space. That being said, there is plenty to be excited about as we push forward.

Lastly, we were curious to ask Piedboeuf about his thoughts on current efforts by private sector companies like Planetary Resources (known for their asteroid mining plans) and SpaceX (space transport company that develops rocket technology) to revolutionize our presence in space. In response, he spoke of the growing transition between the public to the private as these companies begin making serious headway in bringing humanity elsewhere in the solar system.

And what about Mars? When can we expect humanity to set food on the red planet? As Piedboeuf reminds listeners, whether it will happen in the next 15 years is uncertain, but certainly in our life time…

Make sure to check back here soon, as we’ll have the interview available for those who weren’t able to listen live!

Tune into the Morning Show tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM as Smiley, TBA, and myself do our very best to brighten up your morning! Until then, have a lovely Tuesday!

WLUSU Elections Open Forum!

Hey all!

Today is a very special day regarding the WLUSU elections! From 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM, the Open Forum is taking place in the Concourse wherein candidates for Board of Governors, Senate, Board of Directors, and President are ready to answer questions from the public!

From 9:00 AM through to 10:00 AM, DJ CP and DJ Scotty G. were in the Concourse as a prelude to the Open Forum where they had the chance to catch up with current WLUSU President, Michael Onabolu! As the Open Forum began, CP and Scotty threw it back to Lunkis and myself in the studio to chat about a number of things including but not limited to a new feud developing between Chris Brown and Frank Ocean, and the anniversary of the Challenger disaster (which occurred on January 28th of 1986, not January 29th)!

Just an important reminder to students to read the platforms for both the presidential and board of directors candidates! It’s extremely important that you not only vote, but use your voting power responsibly!

Here you can find a series of videos done by the Cord that allow you to hear the presidential candidates’ stances on many important issues including study space, mental health, and food services amongst others:

And of course make sure you tune in tomorrow through to Friday for interviews with both presidential and board of directors candidates! Use your vote wisely!

With love,
