All I Need Is A Straight Shooting Woman To Get Me Through The Night
Lesson 9 of The School of Rock kicked off with a huge bang, the opening riff from Hearts Crazy On You rang out over the radio. Good tunes and a great discussion of classic rock was on the agenda for last weeks session. What more could you really need?
Nancy Wilson’s opening riff was the first thing heard over the radio. Without a doubt probably one of the best female guitarists in history. The American band from Seattle Washington originally gained popularity in Canada before breaking into the states. Your co hots discussed why most bands gain popularity initially in Canada before achieving mass success. However the consensus wasn’t clear, and various factors can affect a bands breakout success.
Take a Band like April Wine for example. They achieved mass success in Canada and the UK but their most popular songs never cracked the top 10 lists in the states.
Usually we stick to 60’s 70’s and 80’s however we thought we would spice up the show with some more modern music. Your Co Hosts have seen a band called The Arkells many many times over the years, including when the band played at Laurier in 2016.
Savannah the song we played has an extremely diverse sound, the band is known for a mastery of a variety of musical instruments. With this came an excellent trumpet solo about half way through the song. Would definitely recommend checking out this band, but stay away from of their more mainstream songs as they have a number of hidden gems.
See everyone next week. Rock on!!!
