The Basement Ep. 7: New Year, New Wave

January 15, 2018 by Ocean Miller

WELCOME BACK FROM THE LITTEST TEAM ON RADIO LAURIER !

https://radiolaurier.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/output.mp4

The new year set in motion the lucid reality of returning to another semester packed with forty-five page readings , 3 hour labs and overenthusiastic class discusions in order to snatch those participation marks up. As week three of the semester creeps up on us just like that , it is with complete and utter satisfaction that the Basement finally returns to Radio Laurier, blessing our loyal listeners with a new wave of top-quality content. From new music to a mixture of deeply intellectual and comical conversation, the Basement is back and better than ever. We hope everyone recieved their well deserved rest and relaxation over the holidays and is prepared to continue on this important journey of creativity , dialouge and unity that the Basement offers its listeners every week. To our old and new listeners we appreciate your support and hope you all can find joy in the show that we work very hard to produce for you every week, Shout out to yall!

After working through some technical difficulties at the start of our show , we finally kicked off our discussion with the team sharing everything they decided to leave in 2017. From manipulative relationships, negative energy and inconsistency, the team expressed their deepest concerns and hopes for the new year as we have entered a new wave of opportunities and positivity in 2018. This lead into a conversation about New Years resolutions and what everyones potential goals were going to be this year. For Bri, it was studying harder and stressing a whole lot less. For Caleb, being more honest with the people around him was at the top of the list, and for Taia it was being more positive. However for Abdul, turning up was the only thing on his mind. After a RnB infused music break featuring H.I.M, and Majid Jordan, the discussion touched on the recent sexual assault allegations that have been circulating in the media. These allegations sparked a hashtag on social media known as #metoo. This hashtag seeked to encourage the survivors of sexual assualt to come forward in unity and to confirm the unspoken truth about the volume of women and men that have been victims to sexual assault.

Another wavey music break featured artists such as Jaden Smith, Popcaan, and Goldlink. The final discussion was about the H&M advertisments that lead into a huge uproar on social media over the past week. Some of the questions we asked were about the reactions that followed the advertisments and the response of the company itself. Our team had a lot to say and we came to the conclusion that the companys actions were disappointing to say the least. After the lengthy discussion we wrapped up the show with our final shoutouts and songs of the week. With that being said, we are extremely excited for the shows in the upcoming weeks. The team has some amazing things planned in the new year; a new WAVE of excitement for the culture ! Until next time, stay real folks ♡♡♡
