We're Back! Press Start to BGN Show Recap 13/09/2017

Welcome back to Press Start to BGN, Laurier’s gaming show by a bunch of Game Design & Development students here at Laurier’s Brantford campus. The program is very new and so is our show, so for those who don’t know Game Design & Development is headed by Dr Scott Nicholson through the Brantford Games Network or BGN, hence the name “Press Start to BGN” which sounds like “begin.” This week we talked about what we’ve been doing over the summer, the issues with PewDiePie and games were looking forward to being released.   • Pewdiepie posted an apology video after having come under much critique for saying the n-word during a livestream
  • thatgamecompany has announced their next game, Sky, for the iOS
  • The NES Classic is being released in 2018 for $59.99
  • Gearbox has announced that Borderlands 3 will be a long wait due to “significant improvements to the series”

Topic of the Show:

This week we discussed what’s on our new game watch list for this year. For Jelena, that would be of course just Cup Head. Nothing else, definitely not Assassins Creed Origins. Why would Jelena be excited for that? Cassie is looking forward to Ooblets which is not being released this year but you know guess she’s not excited for much. But there are some cool games coming out for sure.

What We’ve Been Playing:

Stephan:

  • Fallout Shelter
    • From Bethesda Game Studios comes the single player simulation game Fallout Shelter. In this game, players build and manage their own Vault as the coordinator and leader of the citizens that live there with you. Keep everyone happy as you meet to your citizen’s needs of power, food, and water.  Rescue survivors, take care of your citizens and pet your dog in this game available on iOS, Android, PC and now the Xbox One.
  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
    • From Naughty Dog comes their latest installment within the Uncharted universe, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Play as Chloe Frazer, a fortune hunter on the search for the Tusk of Ganesh in the mountains ofImage result for uncharted the lost legacyIndia with ex-mercenary Nadine Ross. Solve puzzles, shoot or stealth your way through combat challenges and travel across the vast landscape within this action, adventure game. Available on
      PlayStation 4.
  • Overwatch
    • From Blizzard Entertainment comes their 2016 first person shooter, multiplayer game Overwatch. Overwatch contains multiple characters to choose from to battle as with their strengths being linked to four main play categories: offense, defense, tank, and support. Choose your character and fight either one on one or on a team of six against other teams throughout the game’s various game modes and maps. With updates and events coming out throughout the year, Overwatch is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Jelena:

  • Destiny 2
    • Return to the vast worlds of Bungie’s mythic science fiction, action roleplaying game in Destiny 2. Play as
      a Guardian, a guardian being given a power called Light to use to protect the citizens of Earth from
      various alien races. Play as one of three different alien species whom can be one of three attack classes;Titan, Hunter, or Warlock, as you protect the Last City from an alien race called the Cabal who have stolen the source of your character’s Light. Journey to regain your Light and find a way to defeat their
      leader Ghaul and his Red Legion army as you take back the Last City. Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox

  • Night in the Woods
    • From Kickstarter to reality comes Infinite Fall’s Night in the Woods. In this single player adventure game,
      players play as a 20-year- old cat named Mae who has just recently dropped out of college and has
      returned to her hometown of Possum Springs. Reuniting with her old high school friends, Mae begins to
      settle back into her small-town life but finds things are not going to be the same as they use to be. Play
      various mini games, spend time with your friends and create a new chapter in your life in this
      spectacularly charming game. Available on PC and PlayStation 4.
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf
    • From Nintendo comes the adorable life simulation game Animal Crossing: New Leaf! In this game, you
      are the mayor of a town filled with andromorphic animals. Talk to your town residents, explore your
      little town, and enjoy various activities such as bug hunting and fishing. Modify your wardrobe and get
      yourself a lovely house in this charming game available on the Nintendo 3DS.

Cassie:

  • Spin Addict
    • From Ian MacLarty comes the iOS game Jelly Juggle. In this game, you lay as a little goldfish swimming in a circle, as you try and collect pieces of Jello with faces on them. Avoid crabs and score points in this game described as “an exciting new thumb-sport!”
  • Monument Valley 1 and 2
    • FImmerse yourself in the mind bending, sacred geometry within the intricate architecture of ustwo
      Games hit classic, Monument Valley. In the first game, you play as Ida, a princess on a quest of restoring
      her world as you guide and help her through the puzzles of her world. In Monument Valley 2, you play
      as both a mother and her child as the mother teaches her child about their world and the sacred
      geometry that makes it so unique. Help these individuals as you navigate their expansive and intricate
      world in these two games available on iPhone and iPad.

  • Steven Universe: Soundtrack Attack!
    • Battle to the beat in Cartoon Network’s rhythm based game: Steven Universe: Soundtrack Attack! Battle
      various gem monsters as either a Pearl, Quartz or Ruby gem by tapping to the beat of some of the
      series’ iconic songs and soundtracks such as We Are The Crystal Gems, Giant Women and more!
      Customize your gem and fight your way through these rhythmic challenges. Available on iPhone, iPad
      and Google Play.
  • Adventure Time Card Wars Kingdom
    • Use your deck and fight to victory in Cartoon Network’s Card Wars sequel game, Card Wars Kingdom.
