DJ Deej made an appearance on the Morning Show today, and she was joined by Sarah and Eden, the President and the Pre-Law Director. They came on to talk about where the Law Society is headed, and what sort of things they have in store for the student body.
Khadijah: What does your position entail?
Sarah: Orchestration and delegation, but also assistance with setting goals and the achievement of various tasks.
Eden: I work to orchestrate tours, work with administration, and elaborate on the application process.
K: What has been your biggest achievement of the year so far, either club-related or personal?
S: Amping up the community involvement, and being successful with the entire rebranding process thus far.
E: For me, it’s more of a personal achievement. I submitted my applications for Law School on November 1st. The possibility of going to Law school is now more real.
K: What has been the most important lesson that you’ve learned being an exec?
S: The importance of effective communication, and tailoring it to each individual person.
E: The importance of being a team and recognizing that everyone is an asset and the skills that they offer, and each person has goals for the club.
K: What are your goals in the field of Law?
S: Law school is definitely a vision of mine for the future, and after talking to a number of people in the field, I have decided that I want to become a Mediator.
E: My biggest dream is to become the first African-Canadian to own a billion dollar Law firm.
K: Tell us more about this week’s events.
E: On November 17th, which is actually tomorrow, we have an event with the Career Centre. It’s a legal panel, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions to people working different positions in Law. Thursday’s event, which I’m super excited about, is an Industry Night. We have 18 legal professionals with confirmed attendance. This a great networking opportunity.
S: Tomorrow’s event is titled, “Careers in Law Without Going to Law School.” It will be in the Career Centre from 6-8 p.m., Room CC101. You can find the event on our Facebook page. Thursday’s Industry Night will be held in the Board Room at the Huether Hotel, located at 52 King St. S., from 7-9 p.m. You can email laurierlawsociety@gmail.com if you need more information, and to also receive some questions for networking guidance.
K: What can we expect to see from the Society next semester?
E: I’m in the midst of organizing tours of Western’s Law School, and hopefully at the firm that I work at, as well. We are also working to create a scholarship that is based on your leadership experience and interest or desire to attend Law School, and we will present this at our Year End Gala.
S: We will also have the Mock LSAT happening. It will be happening sometime in early February, and lasts five hours. It’s a great way to focus on a specific portion of the exam and practice Multiple Choice questions, and it’s a fully proctored exam. If you are considering writing the LSAT and want to take any courses through the Princeton Review, keep in mind that General Members get $400 off any course that they offer; courses are between $1000 and $1200 each.
