WELCOME BACK LAURIER!
THE BASEMENT HAS A NEW TIME STARTING NEXT WEEK (Sunday January 28th,2018) * 4-6pm
It has been almost a month since the start of the new semester and we hope you’re all hanging in there! The Basement returns for another week with a set of thoughtfully constructed discussions, great music and a good time. We opened up our discussion with a special guest from the Association of Black Students (ABS). Eva, our lovely Director of events, shared an upcoming event at Laurier this Saturday January 27th, 2018. The Amazing Race Laurier is an ABS run event that hopes to raise awareness and funds for Sickle Cell Anemia; a disease of the blood, commonly found within the black community. Bring your friends, support the cause, we hope to see you this weekend!
THE AMAZING RACE LAURIER
RAISING AWARENESS AND FUNDS FOR SICKLE CELL ANEMIA!
The Basement Recap+ Higlights
The lovely Basement crew reminisced on the worst and best days of their young lives, but as of 2018 the positive is all we intend to focus on. Our first music break featured new music from Drake off his new EP titled, Scary Hours. Perfect timing Drake, it was all in Gods Plan, Ha-ha! Our Next discussion touched on the sticky topic of lending money and clothes to friends. We all know how annoying it is to give and NEVER receive or constantly having to ask for YOUR property to be returned. We concluded that the two really don’t mix well.
Our next music break featured artists such as J. Cole, Ciara, and Killy, which lead us into another discussion about the differences between mental and physical health. We talked about the stigmas surrounded by mental health issues and how it is often looked upon within the black community. Although it is fairly new within discourse, it is important to keep the conversations going. Remember, the first #BellLetsTalk of 2018 will be January 31st; Participate!
Another wavy music break featured (A)rtist Boogie wit da Hoodie, and H.E.R which was followed by a discussion about parenting. We asked our crew members, how their parents raised them and the parenting styles they see themselves adopting in the future. Our final music break was followed by our shout-outs and songs of the week. As always, thanks for tuning in and be sure to catch us next Sunday during our new time from 4-6pm. Stay real folks! Love, Ocean❤
