Chris Webby: ‘Chemically Imbalanced’ Review

January 21, 2015 by Stephen Paylor

Christian Webster, better known by his stage name Chris Webby, has worked with notable rappers such as Freeway, Mac Miller, Joell Ortiz, Bun B, and Method Man.

On June 17th 2014, the Connecticut rapper released his 8th mixtape titled ‘The Checkup’. Chemically Imbalanced echoes the production from this mixtape while displaying more adaptability in his verses. Chemically Imbalanced was his debut album and was originally slated for an earlier release, but do to sample clearance issues it was released October 27th 2014. The album features a diverse sound, you can hear classic funk on tracks like ‘Stand Up’ but hard hitting baselines in tracks like ‘Nice To Be Back’. Notable acts like Tech N9ne on ‘Ohh Noo’ and Talib Kweli on ‘Dopeamine’ help make the album more versatile and appeal to a larger audience. Play this album while preparing for a night out, or while driving, as it will have you constantly bobbing your head to the bass, and repeating the lyrics. Having listened to his previous work, this album comes across as more polished than anything prior. It isn’t hard to hear Webby’s similarities in style and flow to Mac Miller.

Its clear to see Webby is starting to make a name for himself in the rap game, ‘Chemically Imbalanced’ acts as another stepping stone for his success.
