9 Days Until 24 Hour Broadcast!

Hello folks,

Missed the show earlier today? Fret not! I’ll fill you in on a few of the things you missed!

Smiley, Oracle, and myself started things off at 9:00 chatting weather and Laurier events. Based on what the Weather Network is telling us, it looks as if we can expect a big of a chillier St. Patrick’s day this year (somewhere around -5). But this is of course fairly early so lets keep our fingers crossed until then!

For our ‘How To’, we decided to chat about ‘how to start your own small zoo’. Turns out it might be more economically viable to just visit your local zoo instead… Concerning ‘Laurier Problems’, looks like the Laurier Twitterverse is not pleased with MyLearningSpace. If you’ve been absent from MyLaurier recently, you’ll have missed the handful of issues going on between actually getting on the site and of course submitting assignments and posts. Once TBA made his way to the studio, we chatted soccer discussing Champions League and FIFA World Cup 2014 (Brazil!).

Make sure to tune into the Morning Show from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM all week, every week! Tomorrow Lunkis, Scotty G, and Skandy, will be doing their very best to cheer up your morning! Tune in!

Laurier Idol Today!

Hey folks,

Apologies firsthand for the very late post-show blog post! It’s been a busy day; Laurier Idol was tonight! But before we chat about that, let me fill you in on what you may have missed on today’s episode of the Morning Show.

If you tuned in this morning to the Morning Show, you would have heard Oracle, Smiley, TBA, and myself chatting about Reading Week, the Toronto International Film Festival, and having the chance to speak with 3 lovely Laurier Idol contestants – Danielle Robert, Isabel Lopes, and Lindsay Tribble. Safe to say, all three were absolute wonderful guests (with seriously impressive voices). If you managed to attend Laurier Idol tonight in the Concourse from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, you would have heard each one of them do their thing on stage; they rocked it!

Make sure to tune into the Morning Show tomorrow morning from 9:00 AM through to 12:00 AM! At 10:00 AM we’ll be having a very special interview with two Laurier students, Terrance and Ahmer, who have earned a  spot among the top 30 semifinalist student teams in a nationwide advertising and marketing case competition called Canada’s Next Top Ad Exec. Tune in to hear about the multi-million dollar marketing concept they both conceived for the Chevrolet Equinox!

Pope Benedict XVI is Retiring! First Pope in 600 To Do So!

Sorry for the massive delay. Had some technical difficulties with the blog today.

Welcome to Monday Golden Hawks! Skandy blogging your synopsis for today’s episode of The Morning Show. Lots of things went down today. In the How To segment Oracle and myself listed off How to say (and pronounce) I Love You in 10 different languages, including elvish. Later in the show I learned some new evidence that helps clear up the answer to How the Dinosaurs Died, courtesy of escapistmagazine.com. Last and certainly not least I learned and helped announce to the world that Pope Benedict XVI will resign as the leader of the Catholic Church as of Febuary, 28th 2013. He will be the first pope to resign in 600 years.

Thank you all for tuning in and enjoy this last week of The Morning Show before reading week from 9 am – Noon.

Sincerely,
Skandy

Keith Slettedahl of the 88!

Hey all,

A little bit of a slow start to the show today as Oracle, Smiley, TBA, and myself, began at 9:30 instead of 9:00 due to some technical issues, but it was all quickly made up for as we had the privilege of speaking with Keith Slettedahl of the L.A. based indie rock band, the 88!

Over the course of our 20 minute interview, we had the chance of speaking with Keith about the bands remarkable success in regards to song placement in television and film. This of course included a brief explanation of how the band came to write the theme song for the NBC show, Community, and the frequent use of the 88 songs on How I Met Your Mother (including acting roles and a brief speaking part for Keith).

Most exciting was hearing of the bands relationship with Ray Davies, best known as lead singer and songwriter for the Kinks. Over the last few years, the band has had the opportunity to tour and play on stage with Davies, a dream come true for Keith, Adam, Todd and Anthony who all were huge fans of the Kinks from childhood.

Be sure to stay tuned for the 88’s new record which will be released in the next few months. Better yet, it’ll be released on vinyl as well!

Seeing as we were lucky enough to record the interview in its entirety, the full thing will be uploaded in the coming days for those who missed it!

And of course, tune in tomorrow morning for another exciting interview with Nicolas Basque of Plants and Animals!

WWMTD (What Would Mark Twain Do)

Happy #moanday (or more commonly known as monday) everyone! It was a rather inspirational day here on The Morning Show today with Oracle and Skandy. Skandy explained that you never know who and how much you will inspire in your day to day live by recalling an touching tale from his past. During the How To segment Oracle provided an awesome list of how to conduct your life according to timeless novelist Mark Twain. There were also interesting discussions as to the awesomeness and importance of Dr. Sues and Disney films in relation to childhood glee. Finally to cap off the show (and coincidently this blog) Skandy teased some of the upcoming events WLUSP will be participating in:

Hearts4Health’s People Auction on Febuary 6th

and

The Bottle Drive on January 27th

Stay tuned to Radio Laurier for more information about these and more upcoming events within the coming weeks.

Sincerely,
Skandy
