Metrolinx and Toronto Negotiate for Train Funding

This week the City of Toronto and Metrolinx are going to continue negotiations over significant costs to build a new airport express line.

This spring Metrolinx is planning to launch its Union-Pearson Express line but has requested that the city front the bill for some of its costs. According to the Globe and Mail, Metrolinx wants these funds to go towards “new grade separation and reconstructing roads and rail bridges.”

“This is just the start of many, many projects,” City Manager Joe Pennachetti said. “Our goal is to work out a framework of principles with Metrolinx and the province for this going forward for literally decades.”

This comes just after a month after Mayor John Tory and the province were unable to negotiate getting more funding to be try and balance the city’s budget.

Back To My Roots!

Hello GoldenHawks! Hope all is well on campus and in class. We here at the Morning Show took a little time out of our show to give you some online updates just in case you weren’t able to tune in. We had a very musically inclined show but still managed to talk about some coo0l things.

First off, we talked about this whole iPhone 6 thing. They released the prototype yesterday and boy does it ever look like the Galaxy phone. Back in the day all other phone companies tried to copy Apple but it looks now as if Apple is the one that’s jacking ideas. The new iPhone comes in the 6 or the 6+ which looks similar to a small tablet. I think I’m gunna stick with my 5C to be honest.

We also played some really cool music from British band ‘The 1975’. They are featured in FIFA14 and naturally they are all I listen to now (when its not rap). Check out a few tracks below and make sure to tune in tomorrow same time, same place.

A Beard of Cats

Hello friends! Lunkis here.

Today’s Morning Show was silly as always, with Kpop and I fantasizing about owning a Radio Laurier creeper van with which to irritate and propagate around campus. It may only be a dream… but one day we’ll have our van.

In today’s entertainment news, Kpop brought up the internet phenomena of “catbearding“. Catbearding refers to the act of having your cat raise its head just below yours while you take a “selfie“, resulting in a beard made of feline. Based on the pictures provided, I’ve come to the conclusion that cats may also sometimes morph into human beards. It’s a beautiful thing! Newcomers to silly internet picture trends should also check out planking, vadering, and “hadoukening
We also made sure to continue our trend of life saving (and improving) how-to segments with How to Be Like James Bond. A couple of the steps in this how to had Kpop and I questioning which James Bond this list represents (as it’s certainly not Sean Connery’s depiction), though the steps are still beneficial. I’m on my way to becoming a secret agent myself! Now if only I could familiarize myself with the language of espionage. Then again, I’m sure I can learn everything about espionage with a few seasons of Archer.

Anyways, thanks for tuning in to today’s show! Be sure to check out TMS on Twitter and Facebook.

Boldly Going Where No Grilled Cheese Has Gone Before!

Hello Goldenhawks!

United for the first time in many months, Skandy and myself did our very best to fit all we had planned within the three hours! Between announcing Laurier events and keeping you tuned in with the weather, we had a few nice long chats about a number of things…

In today’s, ‘Do You Care?’, we chatted about Vassilis Paleokostas! This modern day Greek Robin Hood robbed from the rich and gave to the poor. But that’s not enough to make this story amazing. In light of the recent prison helicopter escape in Quebec, Vassilis escaped from a high security prison facility with help of a helicopter… twice… on two different occasions. Better yet, he still remains at large in Greece! Safe to say, those in charge of the prison were quickly relieved of their duties. Skandy most definitely cared about this story. For more on Vassilis Paleokostas, click here.

Under the same segment, we also discussed Nils Olav. Sir Nils Olav, Colonel-in-Chief of the Norwegian Royal Guard, was knighted by King Harald V in 2008 in a ceremony that consisted of 130 guardsmen and much fanfare. What’s also interesting to note is he is also the mascot of the Norwegian Royal Guard… yeah. The most important feature of Sir Nils Olav is that he is in fact a King Penguin living in the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland. To read more about the world’s most celebrated bird, click here. Also, to enjoy some footage of him and his knighthood, check out this video.

Skandy and I also spend a great deal of time going over Buzzfeed’s 40 Amazing Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipes! Try going through this list of creative and fun grilled cheese sandwiches and not getting hungry; simply impossible. While on one hand the  sauerkraut grilled cheese looked a bit risky, Skandy and I both agreed that goat cheese is perhaps our favorite cheese for this delicacy, while rye bread is our favorite bread. We did all this discussion with some lovely classical music in the background to help shake things up a little.

Needless to say, the two of us had a wonderful time! Today also marks two weeks left until our last show of the term! Be sure to tune in Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM to soak in all the Morning Show you can before exam season rolls in!

9 Days Until 24 Hour Broadcast!

Hello folks,

Missed the show earlier today? Fret not! I’ll fill you in on a few of the things you missed!

Smiley, Oracle, and myself started things off at 9:00 chatting weather and Laurier events. Based on what the Weather Network is telling us, it looks as if we can expect a big of a chillier St. Patrick’s day this year (somewhere around -5). But this is of course fairly early so lets keep our fingers crossed until then!

For our ‘How To’, we decided to chat about ‘how to start your own small zoo’. Turns out it might be more economically viable to just visit your local zoo instead… Concerning ‘Laurier Problems’, looks like the Laurier Twitterverse is not pleased with MyLearningSpace. If you’ve been absent from MyLaurier recently, you’ll have missed the handful of issues going on between actually getting on the site and of course submitting assignments and posts. Once TBA made his way to the studio, we chatted soccer discussing Champions League and FIFA World Cup 2014 (Brazil!).

Make sure to tune into the Morning Show from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM all week, every week! Tomorrow Lunkis, Scotty G, and Skandy, will be doing their very best to cheer up your morning! Tune in!

Laurier Idol Today!

Hey folks,

Apologies firsthand for the very late post-show blog post! It’s been a busy day; Laurier Idol was tonight! But before we chat about that, let me fill you in on what you may have missed on today’s episode of the Morning Show.

If you tuned in this morning to the Morning Show, you would have heard Oracle, Smiley, TBA, and myself chatting about Reading Week, the Toronto International Film Festival, and having the chance to speak with 3 lovely Laurier Idol contestants – Danielle Robert, Isabel Lopes, and Lindsay Tribble. Safe to say, all three were absolute wonderful guests (with seriously impressive voices). If you managed to attend Laurier Idol tonight in the Concourse from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, you would have heard each one of them do their thing on stage; they rocked it!

Make sure to tune into the Morning Show tomorrow morning from 9:00 AM through to 12:00 AM! At 10:00 AM we’ll be having a very special interview with two Laurier students, Terrance and Ahmer, who have earned a  spot among the top 30 semifinalist student teams in a nationwide advertising and marketing case competition called Canada’s Next Top Ad Exec. Tune in to hear about the multi-million dollar marketing concept they both conceived for the Chevrolet Equinox!
