After a long two weeks off air; Radio Laurier’s most lit show is back and it’s better… want you bad as ever.. anyways, we started off the show with a quick recap from, our wonderful members Ocean and Bri, of the 9th Annual Black Students Conference: Legacy 2017. They talked about the amazing feeling of being in a space full of people who look like you as well as have the same feelings as you do. It was a safe space for people who do not always have the opportunity to feel like the majority in everyday life. The conference was full of amazing guest speakers who inspire us to be the best at what we do despite the odds against us. Aside from the education, it’s always a lit time after hours and this was no exception. Shout out to you UBSR for showing Laurier and everyone an amazing time while inspiring us to represent.
After our first music break we jumped right into our first topic: “It’s okay to be white”??? These posters have been appearing all over the US on university campuses and now is coming here to Laurier. The posters were a white supremacists way of getting attention and “trolling” everyone but…when has it ever been NOT okay to be white? Our crew talked about them being the ideal standard not only in North America but across the world seen in light skin fetishes and straight hair goals. The movement is not really saying anything because the point is everyone knows it is okay to be white, we want it to be okay to be everything else too. Does this remind you of something… All Lives Matter movement maybe????
Once we bruk down to our second music break we introduced our audience to our new crew member: Caleb! He is a first year Biology student and he may not be 6ft but his voice is what will get you…right? Ladies if you’re interested let the man know. Speaking of interest, he helped us slide into our third topic of the night: What is game? Can girls have it? Caleb and Abdul clearly felt the it was usually the guys that have game but the ladies on the show and those that wrote in showed them that it only happens if the girls allow it. Except for Nadia and Bri… catch them running the opposite direction of the guys they are feeling. We had a little recap of how Caleb spits his “game” using Bri as the girl he’s feeling. Let’s just say there was a lot of licking of the lips but not a lot of talking. Follow ABS on snapchat for visual behind the scenes of the show: @abs_laurier.
Our third music break stayed lit featuring “Mans not Hot” which lead us into how we think the heated students are feeling about the 5-week college strike being over. How is their mental health and financial abilities going to suffer? All this work has been pushed back and now they will definitely be in over drive for the rest of the semester. Will some people decide to drop out and come back next semester? We understand that the professors have a right to job security but it is not fair to the students to have them suffering for this long and then expecting to complete the semester regularly. The first week must have been nice but after that it starts to dawn on you that it’s not going to be an easy come back. We hope everyone going back on Tuesday has an easy and smooth transition.
Our last topic of the night was how difficult it is to communicate to someone that you are interested in them. Some people are okay with putting themselves out there but rejection is real and it hurts your ego… a lot. Some may say it is better to take your feelings with you to the grave if the other person doesn’t approach you first. It’s all about showing how you feel to someone so you can know if something can flourish, if not, move on to the next… in the most respectful way possible of course. As usual the show ended with some real shout-outs to some real people and the songs of the week. Tune in next Sunday at 8, stay real y’all. Peace.
