Hey Golden Hawks! Hope you’re all having a great first week back at school after a hopefully, relaxing and (somewhat) productive reading week. DJ Kayles and I had a lot to talk about last night, so if you missed out on our show, be sure to check out the blog and give it a read so you can catch up! We played some fairly mellow tracks throughout the night, as we know that this time of year can be stressful with all these assignments and midterms being thrown at us. Tracks by The War on Drugs, Pearl Jam, and Peter Tosh can all be found at the bottom of the blog, along with our full track list.
Feeling in a rut with fall fashion and where to get some cool new pieces to spruce up your wardrobe? No worries, we have got you covered. DJ Kayles and I spent some time discussing some of the fantastic vintage stores that Waterloo and Kitchener has to offer us. For fall staples like big cozy knit sweaters, funky shirts, or some great old school Levis jeans, be sure to check out Patina Vintage Consignment, located at 46 King St. South. This store happens to be in the same building as the Princess Cafe, my personal favorite, so stop by and grab a chai latte in their before or after you shop. Treat yourself am I right? We also talked about White Tiger Vintage, which is a store that has great reviews in Kitchener (248 King St. East) that neither of us has been to yet, but definitely want to check out. Vintage stores are also a great place to get some ideas and pieces for Halloween costumes, which we all know is right around the corner (I’m already stressing about finding a costume). Be sure to check out both these stores, it’s important to support the local businesses in the K/W area!
Lately, I’ve been absolutely enthralled with The Velvet Underground, and their song “I’ll Be Your Mirror” was our Jam of the Week. This song is fantastic and features the vocals of Nico, a German model, singer and actress who worked closely alongside The Velvet Underground on their first studio released album “The Velvet Underground & Nico”. Be sure to check out the link below to watch an interview done by Lou Reed as he discusses the Velvet Underground and working with Andy Warhol as a musical producer, it really gives a great insight as to what this band was all about (mind the German subtitles!).
Coming up this week at Chainsaw, Radio Laurier presents Dirty Bingo! The event is being sponsored by Different Strokes and The Stag Shop, so come down to play a few cards and have the chance to win some great prizes and hang out with the cats from Radio Laurier. We hope everyone has an amazing week, and be sure to tune in next Tuesday from 10-11pm for a good time with DJ Kayles and myself!
