DJs Nix and Winks were in the studio last night with lots to talk about. Deej was out of the studio for good reasons—she attended the Matthew Good concert at Maxwell’s Concert & Events. We are looking forward to the review soon!
Movies, Movies, Movies: Over the weekend, Winks saw the film Logan and Nix viewed John Wick: Chapter 2. Winks described the movie as iconic, emotionally charged, and an overall well-made action film and rated the movie an astounding 5/5. We’re still left with the question: is this the end of the Wolverine series? Nix, on the other hand, rated the second John Wick film with a 4/5 for it’s intense assassin showdowns, views of Rome and New York City, and the epic pencil scene (if you have seen it, you know what we’re talking about).
St. Patrick’s Day: The drinking festivities are fast approaching and the DJs believe it’s best to start preparing sooner rather than later. Winks is trying to move his labs around in order to celebrate the day. Nix suggested Party City for all things Paddy’s-related!
Bunny Hop: In Winks’ five years at Laurier, he’s yet to do one of the pub crawls put on by XL Lifestyle and this year he’s committed to the glorious event. Nix has participated in two 12 Barz of Christmas and pointed out that you’ll likely spend a lot of money and sober up between bars so it’s best to pre-game heavily.
Bunny Hop takes place Thursday, March 3rd in Waterloo and tickets are still available: https://www.ticketlabs.com/event/15235/.
OVO Sound Radio: The latest episode of OVO Sound Radio is to be rescheduled with no set release date and no reasons given. The two DJs speculated as to whether it had something to do with complications with the much anticipated More Life playlist. Drake, we’re waiting!
Lastly, the two discussed their love of HNDRXX by Future so much so that they have barely listened to FUTURE since it’s release merely a week before. Of course the DJs love “Comin’ Out Strong” featuring fellow Canadian The Weeknd, but Nix has been discovering more go-to songs from HNDRXX including “Incredible” and “Damage.” Nix was also excited about the release of Lorde’s single, ”Green Light,” explaining it as a fresh approach to pop music. In addition, Ed Sheeran released ÷ (Divide) on March 3rd after a three-year hiatus. The DJs have yet to listen to the album in its entirety, but based on the single “Shape of You,” they are looking forward to listening and reviewing on the next show.
Radio Laurier’s “Hip-Hop Hangout”: Reminder that Monday, March 13 is the return of the Hip-Hop Hangout. Drop by Pub on King in Uptown Waterloo. Doors open at 7 p.m.
