Russian Warplane Shot Down By Turkey

Tensions rise after Russian warplane was  shot down after crossing into Turkish airspace. This took place after Russia announced it would deploy missiles to Syria. 

Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Tuesday that they sent multiple warnings, specifically 10 times within five minutes before taking action.

Vladimir Putin, President of Russia has since called Turkey “accomplices of terrorism” and also declared that “ there will be serious consequences”.

Russia has  been bombing Syrian Rebel groups since they launched strikes in September.

The plane crashed in Syrian territory and the pilot, Lt Col Oleg Peshkov, was shot dead by rebels as he parachuted to potential safety


SUV Torched With Four Year Old Boy’s $8000 Wheelchair 

An SUV containing was stolen and later set on fire with  an$8000- custom-made wheelchair set inside on Tuesday afternoon in Kitchener Ontario.

The custom wheelchair was used by a four-year-old boy, Isaiah.

According to mother, Meghan Gardecki, Isaiah suffers from a similar case close to severe cerebral palsy.

Police found the vehicle in the Six Nations parking lot, torched leaving everything inside wrecked.

Gardecki’s concern lies within the time it will take to replace the chair, rather than the cost. She states that they will make do with an older wheelchair for Isaiah until then.


Laurier Students Shocked By  Hate Graffiti

Students across Laurier’s Waterloo campus are in shock and disapointment after it was revealed over the week that their had been two cases of hate graffiti.

School officials have revealed that the graffiti was found on the stalls of two washrooms on campus. One in the science building, the other near a cafeteria. 

Upon report the graffiti was quickly removed, but School officials have since sent out emails regarding their disdain. In response a summit will be held in the near future to address concerns about racism. 

The summit is scheduled for March 21 for the “International Day for the Elimination of Racism”.


Ontario Permits Public Smoking Of Medical Marijuana

New regulations in Ontario permit public smoking of medical marijuana. 

According to Dipika Damerla, Ontario’s associate health minister, employers, restaurant owners and other proprietors have the right to overrule any medical marijuana smoking

Restaurant owners are also entitled to ask for proof of medical prescription.

Studies have found medical marijuana to be beneficial for pain control and the quality of life for patients  in need of relief.


Chris Hemsworth Shows Appreciation to Parents In A Big Way

Actor Chris Hemsworth may just be your new favourite and possibly the best son a parent could ask for. 

The 32 year old Avengers star showed his undeniable appreciation to his parents with a huge jester by paying off their lifelong debts.

Younger brother, Liam Hemsworth, revealed in a recent interview  The Independent after being asked about some of the life-changing effects stardom has had.

“They are so happy now and able to spend more time with us,” the Hunger Games star continued. “I would love to be able to do something for my parents like that.”
