Wuddduuupp hip-hopers?! K that was weird. Whatever. Moving on. It was kind of a slow week in hip-hop to be honest. We had a few announcements, a new rant, and engagement and a one-year album anniversary. Can you guess which one? Take a look at the title.
Mr. Kid Cudi announced a his new EP will be dropping sometime soon BUT he will only officially announce the date 24 hours before it drops. Soo keep refreshing your Twitter timeline Cudi fans. Talking about new projects, DJ Khaled dropped a his seventh studio album entitled Suffering From Success this week and boy does it have some bangers. It is literally the same formula we’ve been seeing from Khaled for years but it is still working. Check out some of our faves here and here. #WeTheBest
Ohhh yeah, and Kim and Kanye got engaged. I ain’t sayin’ she a gold digger but she ain’t messin’ with no…
REAL OR RATCHET this week was a little different. We switched it up to basically REGRET or RATCHET. We looked at 14 different cases in which rappers said they regret something. Some were genuine and some were plain garbage. Check out the list right here and feel free to let us know which ones yall thought were real or ratchet.
THE REALNESS was all about classsssics. This past week, Kendrick Lamar’s debut LP, Good Kid Maad City turned one year old. Waaaay back in October 2012, people were calling the album a classic that will go down in hip-hop history as one of the greatest. Premature? Maybe. We looked at it a year later and decided that it was still relevant but still too early to tell if it’s a classic. We then took a little stroll down memory lane and looked at some DEFINITE classics. This included illmatic, Late Registration, The Chronic, Enter The Wu, The Blueprint etc. etc. etc. Our conlcusion was that you’ve gotta wait at least 5 years to see if the album is a classic. Sooo don’t believe the hype. Ha!
GLAYSH’S GUILTY PLEASURE was another classic. Of sorts. This might just be our most played GGP but I had to do it to ’em. Rich Homie Quan got us hella turnt with Type Of Way. Check the guilty music vid here. I’m shining heaux!!!
Our UNDERGROUND KING was of Laurier’s very own. Actually two of Laurier’s very own. The big homie Tech Rhymes dropped a new track produced by Audaci. The track is called Rosebud and features some dope rhymes and even doper production. You can check out these UGKs at this upcoming hip-hop hangout. Just wait on it…
Last but not least was VERSE OF THE WEEK! This week we picked our fave verses off Kendrick’s Good Kid Maad City album. My choice? The first verse on maad city. Kamo’s choice? The first verse off Backseat Freestyle. The winner? Moi again! That brings me to 5-2. Is there a hall of fame for this yet? Ha!
Well, that’s it form us this week. Make sure to check us out next week when we got Brantford in the building for more hip-hop goodness. Oh yeah, follow us on Twitter too. @RLRapUp just so you know it’s real…
