Top Ten Songs About Home(coming)

Hello Cyberspace,

I hope you are all doing great and resting up for the big day tomorrow…HOMECOMING!

So, this week, in honour of homecoming, The Top Ten held a show dedicated to the occasion. I decided that rather than do ‘homecoming’ songs, I would do songs about home!

Throughout the evening, I shared with the listeners some fun facts about homecoming, here is a few:

1) The University of Missouri is officially sanctioned by the NCAA, Jeopardy! and Trivial Pursuit as the originator of homecoming in 1911.

2) Maudine Ormsby was nominated and won Ohio State University’s homecoming queen in 1926. Maudine Ormsby was a cow.

3) Cassidy Lynn Campbell, a transgender girl was crowned homecoming queen last Friday at a California high school (Marina High)

4) In 1999 the tradition of holding bonfires at the end of the homecoming game was quickly stopped because of a tragic incident at Texas A&M University. 12 students were killed and 27 others were injured when a 40-foot-tall (12 m) pile of logs that had been assembled for a bonfire collapsed.

The song list:

  1. Homecoming-Kanye West ft. Chris Martin
  2. Take Me Home Tonight-Eddie Money
  3. Bring It On Home To Me-Sam Cooke
  4. Home-Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes
  5. Our House-Crosby Stills, Nash & Young
  6. Our House-Madness
