The Civil Wars 'The Civil Wars' Review

The Civil Wars 'The Civil Wars' Review

For Fans Of:  Mumford & Sons / The Avett Brothers / The Decemberists

The Civil Wars are back with their second studio album release, self-titled record  The Civil Wars

The Civil Wars provides a perfect follow up to their 2011 album Barton Hollow. While many may only recognize this duo from their Taylor Swift collaboration on the 2011 Hunger Games track “Safe and Sound”, the raw acoustics and lyrical talent of this duet, in my opinion,  makes them one of the most potent voices in the folk music world today. Dark melodies and haunting lyrics provide a unique sound that sets these two apart from other acts. Stand-out songs on this album for me include: “The One That Got Away”, “Devil’s Backbone”, and “From This Valley.”

So if you haven’t already check out The Civil Wars or for some added fun, their cover of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean (link below), I can assure you indie-folk fans will not regret it, big things are coming for these two.
