NCRC 2012

NCRC 2012

Greetings radioland,

May we begin this post by saying that sleep deprivation is a real thing, and boy has the management team (plus our fearless Pres) experienced it a great deal this past week, therefore I apologize if things get a little wacky and hard to understand.

We were fortunate enough to attend the National Campus and Community Radio Conference (NCRC) last week, hosted by Queen’s University in Kingston, ON. Radio Stations from all across the country traveled to Kingston to share their experiences and learn from others, as well as have an awesome time together. I believe these three things were accomplished, with an extra dose of fun and bonding added in!

We thought we would offer a little insight into some of the sweet workshops we attended. Personal favourites included: event planning & promotion, connecting with local music, radio art, and leveraging social media. All the workshops provided great tips to improve the station and allowed us to help others with their weaknesses.

One of the best parts of the conference was interacting with other stations and seeing what they have to offer. We befriended Regent Radio, a community radio station in Toronto, who are working hard to help the kids in their community. I highly recommend you check em out and support, as we hope to do some work with them in the future.

Regent Radio liked to have fun, and we had a TON of it. CFRC (Queen’s radio station) planned events every night, including concerts, dance parties, open mics, and game nights. The Kingston nightlife was ours for the taking and we didn’t waste a second.

Last, but certainly not least, WE WON AN HONORABLE MENTION at the Awards Gala. You heard me, RL received an honorable mention in the category of community development. This is more than we could have hoped for, and we are so proud of the whole station for doing a great job this year!

Well there you have it, our trip in a nutshell (minus some pg-13 moments), so you can pretend you were there with us. Many thanks to Queens, the NCRA, and everyone involved for a great week!

Hope everyone is having a fantastic summer and listening to a lot of, I know we are!
