What up friends,
Today’s show will focus solely on one of the single most important groups in hip-hop history. The illustriously magnificent stylings of A Tribe Called Quest. When Tribe came on the scene in the late 80s it was apparent that did not intend to keep making rap music in the same fashion that was already typical. Sampling an eclectic catalog of music, Tribe emerged with an extremely diverse sound that perfectly suited their socially conscious rhyme styles.
I think I speak for many when I say that A Tribe Called Quest changed my life. I was lucky enough to see them perform at Rock the Bells in Toronto and it was superb indeed.
Tonight I sparked the show off with Weldon Irvine’s “We Gettin’ Down” which was sampled for “Award Tour.” Another personal favourite is Minnie Ripperton’s “Inside My Love,” sampled for “Lyrics to Go.”
