Native Tongues Got Rhymes Galore!

Native Tongues Got Rhymes Galore!

Yes they do,

This week on Connect the Crates, our focus was the supergroup formed in the late 1980s known as the Native Tongues. Originally comprised of A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and the Jungle Brothers, the Native Tongues would eventually include such artists as Black Sheep, Monie Love, Queen Latifah, and many many more.

The artists affiliated with the Native Tongues are credited for harboring in a new hip-hop subgenre often referred to as “conscious rap.” Whatever you classify it as, you CANNOT deny the awesome. Some choice cuts from this week’s show include “Scenario” by A Tribe Called Quest feat. Leaders of the New School (Busta Rhymes’ first group), which was sampled from Brother Jack McDuff’s “Oblighetto,” and “Ego Tripping pt. 2” by De La Soul, sampled from Al Hirt’s “Harlem Hendoo.”

Not sure if I’ll do my show during reading week…who knows, I might catch ya by surprise! In the meantime – check my raps, they’re fun and everybody likes having fun –> MisterE – Dusting For Prints
