Bringing Radio Back to Radio!

Bringing Radio Back to Radio!

People attending a radio production while watching their favourite actors perform

This week, we changed our format a little bit.  Instead of choosing a topic and playing music, we aired a radio performance of the classic Screwball comedy, It Happened One Night (1934), starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert reprising their original roles.

The Lux Radio Theatre adapted popular films to an hour long radio program.  Since there was no such thing as DVDs, VHS, or Netflix back then, people only had a limited time to see their favourite films while they were in theatres or during a rare re-release.  This program gave people the chance to listen to their favourite films again, and often with the original stars playing their original role.  This program also gave people who could not afford to go to the theatre a chance to “see” films they were not able to see when they were in theatres.

If you missed the show this week, you missed out!  But don’t fret, we may stick with this format. 🙂
